What is the best gear for a thief that uses longblades and lightarmor?

First question, are you on PC or Xbox?
If you are on PC there are many different mods available.
Strictly in-game, if you have Tribunal, I would suggest the Dark Brotherhood armor. It is one of the better-looking armors, and it provides a pretty decent AC. You may even want to combine it with a bit of Daedric armor for a funky and even more sinister appearance.

If you are going to be using longblades, IMO a katana is the most thief-like. Personally, I prefer using daggers and short blades (tantos and wakizashis, sp?) for stealth characters; they do less damage, but they are fast and deadly, and you get more hits with them.
Regardless though, the best in terms of 'thiefy' looks and quality are ebony and daedric.

If you have a PC, check out The Summit (listed on the Morrowind Yellowpages sticky here), which has a very large data base of mods.

If you got the money and are either friendly with an enchanter or you're good in enchanting yourself you could go for lightarmor that has alot of enchanting potentional and put some chameleon or increased sneakingskill etc. on it. ;)

Glass and Dark Brotherhood armor. Alas, if I'm not mistaken, Dark Brotherhood armor accepts a heavy deal of Enchantments.

Yes, glass does have a higher AC. But Dark Brotherhood just looks more like something a thief would wear. I mean, can you really imagine a thief sneaking around in bright green glass? ;)

Besides if you are role playing.. a thief doesn't need to worry as much about AC, since thieves do a lot of sneaking and they rely extensively on ranged weapons.
Not to mention, the Dark Brotherhood is the second best light armor in the game, so it really does offer pretty good protection.

Since you are on PC, though, check out the mods. If you go to The Summit, search under categories like clothing, armor, weapons etc. You can also take a look at the scroll down bar in the search menu that lists all the mods in the data base, which might help narrow things down a bit. Though sometimes it is fun to browse, just to see what is out there.

What shield should i use and whats the best dagger in the game?

There are a lot of great daggers, Keening is one of the best. However, early on, the best one which you can get quickly is Souldrinker from a Mages' Guild mission.

Thieves' don't usually carry shields :p

But i thought that the black hand's dagger was best but maybe keening is better ;)

Mehrunes' Dagger and Dagger of Symmachus are great too, and I swear by my trusty Glass Jinxblade. It's just a matter of preferences.

I prefer to combine jinxblade with another weapon, because the paralyze effect lasts longer then the time it takes you to swing.

Another tip for you, if you are considering bows. The Daedric longbow is the best ranged weapon in the game. There are two you can potentially acquire in the original game, three if you have Tribunal.

But, the best bet, IMO, is once you have the cash, enchant a ring or something with constant effect "bound longbow." This conjures up a weightless bow when equipped that is identical to a real daedric bow, except it also adds ten extra points to your Marksman skill.

Nobody suspects a guy of stealing if he dresses like Liberace, even if he is a Meadow Fae. :)

The cuirass you mentioned is one of the better light armor parts in the game, keep it. As for enchanting: you can enchant every item that's not been enchanted yet. So in your case that means the Dark Brotherhood items you're wearing.
Also, you can, of course, carry as many items in your inventory as your strength level allows. That means you don't have to limit yourself to, say, one pair of boots or one helmet. For instance, there are many rings in the game that makes a thief's life easier. So why use only the menor's ring and a ring of night-eye?

Ring of telekinese has proven quite handy, to me anyway.
Ring of Khajit: 30 sec. of invisibility and 10-20 pts speed improvement.
The ring of surroundings: chameleon 10-30%.
Marara's Ring: constant effect: reflect 20%, fortify acrobatics 10 pts and resist normal weapons 30 or 40%.
Ring of the wind: fortify agility by 30 pts, constant effect.
Very useful (but also very cheesy and, uh, not a ring) is the amulet of shadows, which gives you 80% chameleon for 120 seconds.

I'm sure others can think of other rings and amulets and other neat stuff.
