Multi-classes can only be chosen at the beginning of the game by non-human characters.

YEs but that doesnt give me an answer.
AT THE MAKING if you choose half-elf how do you choose the multi-class druid-mage. ITS IN THE HANDBOOK SO I THINK IT CAN BE DONE

Are you sure that the druid/mage class can be chosen by half-elfs and the stats meet the requirements?
Maybe WIS and INT have to be at least 17 as they are the prime requisites for those classes.

Druid/mage doesn't exist, only cleric/mage. You'll have to use a tool if you want o make a druid/mage.

Yeah,i checked the manual too,and found the half-elf multiclassing place.I think that the * only goes for the first one, fighter/cleric.The other *-s were just a couple of mistakes i quess.

That kinda sucks :/. But the manual is notorious for having lots of errors and inconsistencies.

You might experiment with shadowkeeper and see if creating a druid/mage is possible that way. My guess is that post-ToB it's not. Regardless, you can always play an Avenger druid, which - at least - adds a little bit of the additional spell casting.

SupaCat was talking about the "Handbook"...
Maybe he was refering to the AD&D 2nd Edition Player Handbook. In AD&D 2nd, every multiclasses with Cleric (Fighter/Cleric, Ranger/Cleric, Cleric/Mage, Cleric/Thief, etc.) could be done with Druid (Fighter/Druid, Ranger/Druid, Druid/Mage, Druid/Thief, etc.).

I think he means the game manual.

There are a lot of things you can do in real AD&D that you can not in Baldur's Gate.

There's nothing in the English manual about a multi-class druid/mage. Are you in Belgium, and is your manual in English? If it's a translation then it's a bad translation and someone screwed up.
you could probalby still Dual class a druid/mage though I don't know why you'd want to.

First of all, you cannot. Dual-classes must be the same as multi-classes. Holy cow what good options there would be otherwise.
And Druids are one of the best dual-classed characters. It's just a shame their only dual-class option is fighters. Reason? When they hit 3,000,000 exp they go from 1 to 6 lvl7 priest spells. SIX! A cleric with the same amount of xp has 2. AND, at that xp the druid is only lvl15. That means that you can dualclass and gain back your druid levels fairly easily.
Anyway, to sum things up, a dual-classed druid/mage would have enough xp to be able to cast 6 maxlvl druid spells and 3 maxlvl mage spells. With the ring that'd be 7/3. Compare that to Aeries 3/2 who'll rise to 4/2 when getting the ring. 10 against 6, that's a pretty big difference.
The only drawback would be that you don't get to pick too many druid quest level spells. :/ By dualling at level19 you'd be granted 4, and that's max if you'd like to keep your 3 highend mage spells. Still... I'd reckon it'd be worth it. ^^

I believe it may also be limited by race too. E.g. only gnomes can be C/T.
That spell leap you describe is probably due to the amount of XP required (1,500,000 I believe) you have to earn the amount of XP that got you to level 13 all over again to get to level 14

PnP had no restriction on druid/mages in 2nd edition. Since BG2 is based on 2nd I assumed that this would be something they'd keep.
2nd edition and BG2 both have race restrictions on multiclass combinations, but dual class doesn't have these (in 2nd Ed., should be the same in BG2) so any available multiclass should be available for dualling.
It never occurred to me that I'd want to play a dual PC in this game that wouldn't regain primary class abilities until I'd come close to 5 million XP. With a full party you'd dual at the end of chapter 6 and regain abilities between 1/3 and halfway through TOB, knocking out one NPC won't make much of a difference and knocking out 2 means either playing a difficulty below insane or resting more than makes sense for an RPG, unless you aren't big on the R and the P.
All of which is beside the point-that SupaCat has a manual which apparently states that an unavailable class combination can be played.

No, a human can dual-class into every available multi-class option. That includes a cleric/thief.

it can be done...make a cleric mage multi, then add the druid spells via shadowkeeper.
a chaincontingency implosion triple is a thing of wonder and terror...i've killed dragons that way...
malison+implosion+implosion...
a spell sequencer containing insect swarm, web, and skeleton warrior is evil...

Good to see you again, UU.
malison+implosion+implosion...
Yes, I can relate to that. It actually got a loud laugh from me, the first time I used it. Chain contingencies are a marvel. When you combine mage with clerical spells, you get an idea why Aerie is potentially the strongest character in a party for the longterm.

In my own BGII manual it says nothing of a druid/mage being a possible combination. Are you sure you didn't misread it?
The information I found was under the classes list, midway through the manual.
