Mae'var Quest Question

My 4th time through doing the quests to expose Mae'var, but I've run into a new twist making things much more difficult.

In the past, he has always asked for the necklace from the temple of Talos. This is very easy to get. This time around, he is asking for a gold statue from the temple of Lothander. I can't figure out how to get this statue without setting off the alarms which cause every knight of Lothander inside and outside the temple to go red...the ones outside are especially problematic since there is no way to avoid them any time I am in the temple district and killing them would result in huge reputation losses and probably make Helm's knights and the paladins and maybe Talos' knights red too.

Is there a way to disarm the alarm system? I have been through the whole temple looking for a switch and if there is one I'm missing it. The only reason I care about the quest is I'm looking for a different set of NPC interactions and wanted Edwin. Unfortunately, I have already saved after accepting the quest so I can't go back and try to get him to give me the other one.

If your PC's alignment is evil you will get the quest to steal Gold statue from temple of Lathander. Makes sense because Lathander is the "good" god.

Stealing the statue is indeed a bit tricky as the alarm goes on if you try to steal it. Solution is very logical, steal it when there is no one around. It took me quite long to figure this out because there is no other similar situation that I have encountered. After waiting few minutes Dawnmaster Kreel went to an other room in the temple and I got my chance to steal the statue without being interrupted.

I waited until the Dawnmaster left, but there are a pair of guards standing at the entrance to the area that don't ever seem to leave.

My PC is actually CG but barely smarter than Minsc under the influence of some rather questionable parties.

Perhaps the guards outside might not be such a problem, at all.

I'm sure you've noticed a few times that 'others' followed you, while attacking, into other rooms. You could leave the temple after smashing everybody and everything inside. Then go out, see the guards outside go hostile, and go back in. When correctly, the outside guards should come in with you where you can dispatch them without too many problems.

But I'm not sure if you want to follow this path, since your main is a CG character ...

heres what you have to do:
come back to the temple at night and the guards guarding the statue are asleep and away. but in order to do this, you must have a good reputation, not alignment, so i recommend giving some money to the alms guy. now, when the coast is clear, you can open the safe and the alarm wont ring. its that simple.
