Icewind Dale: Does it work on Windows XP?

Hi there. I didn't turn up anything with a search.
I'm a big fan of the Baldurs Gate games and I want to try something similar. I know Icewind Dale is not rated for Windows XP, which means that it might or might not work on my computer.
Does it work for you, other XP users? Should I buy the combo set with all the Icewind Dale games?
Thanks,

Workes for my XP aswell. And i agree that you really should buy the entire pack, but if you are a little short on cash then i recomend IWD 2 more than 1.

Welcome to the forum
It works fine on mine too, although some people have had problems with NVidia drivers before now.
I would recommend getting the combined pack as well.

Welcome Tatterdemalion,
I concur with all the above especially on buying the entire set. There is also a great additional module that is NOT included in the IWD set called Trials of the Luremaster. It is for the first IWD and is only available by download. I believe is available on "Gamespot". It is large (73mgb) so it will take a while if you do not have DSL access. But it is worth the trouble and really adds (IMHO) to the enjoyment of the first IWD. My Pc has XP and service pack 2 was included (in case that crossed your mind), and I 've had not one speck of trouble. SP2 does cause problems for a couple of games, Temple of Elemental Evil is a prime case.

Thanks for your replies
Very helpful! Thank you!
I just ordered the full set from Amazon.
(And then I turned around and donated the same amount of money to the red cross. Because if I can afford to play video games . . .)

Does not work for me...!
Hello guys.
I need some help here.
I just installed IWD1 on my machine.
Specs are as follows:
WinXP+SP1a
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
Athlon XP 3200+
1GB Ram
Radeon 9700 Pro - 128MB ram
Ok,
Now I install on full installation.
I launch the game, configure it, click the No Register" button, and then I get the loading splaxh screen (picture), and then nothing happens. I can see thatthe cursor changes to hourglass for a split second but then everything goes idle.
What's the problem here?
My video card perhaps?
I DID play IWD1 on WinXP but on a NVidia-Winfast Geforce 3 Titanium 128MB.
Please advise.
Thank-you.

No exact idea...maybe your game cds are scratched ? My original IW cds could still install the game but I couldn't reach a point beyond Easthaven anymore cause they didn't install the whole game correctly. So I bought the Black Isle Compilation Pack II and now it works....
I use a Radeon 9600 XT with the lastest drivers and don't have any problems...

I have been thinking abou tthis.
Could this be a codec issue? The one that is suppose top play to opening movies of Black Isle and Wizards of the Coast?
Could this be the issue?
My cd's are fine actually, they are still mint condition. This thing troubles me a bit since another game I installed lately does not launch on my
machine, it is called Grandia 2. Maybe the problems are not even remotely related but still the coincidence is strange to me.
What are the latest Catalyst drivers BTW ?
Thank-you.

Older games like IWD run properly (on XP) if you install older versions of your graphics card driver. Try installing an older driver, that should solve these kind of problems!
