OK guys. I need to know the answer to this question...
Does sneak attack work with spells?

What kind of spells do you mean?
Having protections and bonuses like Cat's Grace or Prayer should still allow a rogue to Sneak Attack.

I think he means if you can get the sneak attack damage on lets say a magic missile (I have no idea what spells are included in this game).

Well if that's the question, then the answer's no. The same would also apply to rogue/clerics or sorcerers. There is no bonus to damage for taking a creature by surprise with a spell.
Just the possibility of casting a spell if your initiave roll has been succesful enough that your party gets to go before any of the enemies. No extra damage from that either, though.

Yeah, the magic missile version is what I meant.
Thank you for you replies.
I really don't know why I'm planning my characters when I know I'm not gonna be playing this game any way. Its like, I'd rather do nothing that go through the hours of repetitive and annoying events I have to go through in order to play this game to the end.
But I enjoy planning my characters. Thats more fun than playing the game itself.
I would start a discussion about the ethics of D&D games but it doesn't look like this forum is used actively at all. Oh well.
Thank you ^^
Happy birthday, I love you!
(ahem, cough, cough, chooke, weeze, cough)
I apologize.

After a while in the game you will probably replace some of your characters anyway, so it's not worth planning it out to far in advance.

I think the main reason for the spells to do not be included in the hall of enable backstab actions is that you should be able to speak, wich breaks the surprise of the atack. Also, ranged atack are not enabled as this simply because it'd be cheesy to backstab someone from the other side of the room with an arrow.
And backstab would be a tool of the Gibbering twelve if it could be used with magic. Have you guys ever imagined a fireball with a damage multiplier?

Yeah, I suppose....
You can't really aim at the "vital" organs with a fireball due to the size of it.
It probuably hits ALL the vital organs anyway : )
That's why it does the intense damage. So there really would be no advantage from sneak attacking with a fireball, because its not like you can do anything different than just charge and shoot anyway.
So, there's that put to rest.

Indeed. Somewhere on the net I've read about Backstabing and the person said that for him it was the act to either hold the enemy head and silently cut his throat with a dagger or stabbing him hard and waiting for his blood be drained out of his body, so it corroborates with your views

Sadistic stuff, D&D.

Actually sneak attack does work with ranged attacks using a bow - if within 30ยด of the target.
