I've been following Oblivion pretty closely for awhile and I came up with list of some of the major features that we know about the game so far...

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

- Scheduled to release in winter 2005

- Will be release on PC and Xbox 360

- Both first and third person views available

- New combat and magic system

- New enemy AI. (Examples: Enemies can now run away, switch weapons, drop broken weapons/armor, team up with each other, and take in information about their surroundings to help determine their course of action)

- Over 1000 unique NPCs. (Ever NPC is different and will react differently to situations based on their personality, past experiences, etc.)

- Every NPC runs on their own 24 hr. schedule. (NPCs will now go to work, eat, shop, pray, sleep and many other routine things)

- New NPC A.I. (Example: If an NPC is hungry he may choose to buy food from the market however if he has no money he may choose to hunt or steal instead.)

- New famous rating system. The more famous you are the more people will notice and respect you.

- You can now buy a home in all major cities.

- Guards and other forms of law will arrest/attack criminals. (Example: If a villager to caught proaching and animal, stealing from someone, attacking someone etc. the guards may choose to arrest the villager and fine him or attack him)

- There are 21 skills to build up.

- Oblivion is a bigger world than Morrowind. (16 sq. miles)

- A day/night cycle of 48 minutes. (Same as Morrowind)

- Over 200 hundred dungeons.

- You can ride your own horse across the world which is much faster then walking. (You can buy/steal them)

- You can buy/steal dogs and keep them as pets.

- There are six joinable fractions all of which you can become the leader of (Fighters’ guild, Mages’ guild, Thieves’ guild, Arena Guild, The Dark Brotherhood, The Nine Divines, and The Blades)

- Combat is said to be far more gory then in Morrowind. (Which is leading many to believe that the game will be rated 'M' for mature)

- New character creation system with many new options.

- Over 50 hours of recorded dialogue

- Many land and water forms including lakes, seas, mountains, plateaus, waterfalls, plains, and rivers.

- Many weather effects including rain, snow, thunder, and lightning.

- A non scripted change in the environments over time (Examples: Trees will grow and die with time, hills will erode)

- New physics system (Example: If you were to drop an apple into a bucket on a ledge, the bucket may tip over due to the weight and position of the apple)

- Over 400 readable books.

[NOTE: I will add to this list as time goes on and I may edit the already present features if they are found to be false or somewhat inaccurate.]

So, in other words, you need a super-über-mega-l33t computer with Tetrabytes of RAM to run it. Yay!

Amazon.co.uk gives the release date Sept. 30th 2005. Not sure if this will stay the same though.

The RRP is £39.99. PC version.

Ignore Amazon, or any place that offers the game for sale. They're deliberately given earlier-than-possible release dates, so as to get in a lot of pre-orders. A more realistic estimate is sometime in November, or even early December, if pushed to it. But I don't doubt Bethsoft will make the holidays.

They updated the release date to March 26th anyway :D
Usually things don't get released before an Amzon date (just way after it would seem).

The sheer number doesn't matter. What matters is how well a specific area is detailed and developed. There were thousands of NPCs in Morrowind, and most of them were identical in so far as their conversation was concerned. I'd be perfectly happy with 200 NPCs who were individual.

Although this isnt related to the subject, I doubt there will be slaves because slavery is a Dunmerish thing.

realistic

i was told that it would be more relistic in the forms of things that attach you, a clif racer would not jump you whenever you walk down a road.

No spears, no medium armour this time either. While I don't care about the spears so much I am somewhat miffed about the medium armour.

The sys req are also a point of interest. It is going to need a really good comp for medium settings alone, let alone anything above it.

And I can't wait to see that wood and the erroding terrain.

Does anyone have a guesstimate of the requirements? I am worried that I will need to upgrade to play it on PC. Exact knowledge would be nice!
