After completing BG - Tales of Sword Coast was very exited to start playing BG2 - SOA.
But to my utter disapointment my game play is so jerky, I cannot do anything let alone go into battle!!
I have checked and rechecked settings, checked system requirements - which all seem okay - yet I cannot get the game to play smoothly!
Does anyone have any suggestions please - I am suffering withdrawels here
Please feel free to email me - I am waiting anxiously!!!
Thanks all!!

Look through the archives and find a thread called, 'Hardware Usage' you might fiond some interesting and helpful comments in there.
You could try turning off certain things.
EAX
3D Animations
Ambiant sounds
Large static animations
You could also try increasing Cache.

You think BG1 gives withdrawel, wait till you get this working. I didn't think any game could be more addictive than Fallout 2, but this game with invade your dreams and every aspect of your waking hours.
I don't have any technical advice (The only things I can think of Mr. Sleep already said). I just thought I'd rub it in

Yes. I am a bastard.

I would suggest doing what I had to do meself in order to get BG2 to run smoothly. Start up the config program and turn of everything that seems to need the slightest bit of memory. Then start the game and to the same there. Yep, that's right. All sound, all grapic effects and the cool little details that makes the game so enjoyable.
If the game runs smoothly at that point you atleast stand a chance. I started going trough a checklist of what features I really wanted and added them one by one. Everytime I turned something on I started up the game a played a little. If it slowed down by adding the feature I quit and turned it off and turned on something else and tried that instead.
The game works great now, except when fighting dragons or twenty mages or the like. And let's face it. You can still enjoy the game without echoes, footsteps and realistic shadows.

Thanks for the info Mr Sleep - tried the cache - at the time but did not seem to make to much of a difference. I have now reinstalled BG as a full installation not as a recommended (as I had done before)and quess what - It plays much better!! Gets jerky only occasionally and for a short while then seems to catch up - what a pleasure!!
Hope all goes well from here....thanks again

A thankyou directed at me from someone on the board a scary prospect
Increasing Cache tends to make loading times shorter due to a visited location stil being in that Cache, this can be exceptionally useful if you have not done a full install.
Do you play in 640x480 or 800x600, this tends to also make a significant change.
