The Octopus Killed My Mommy

Hi guys,

Advice and hitns are appreciated in advance.

I seemed to have problem defeating the giant octopus at the end of the mission in the Underground Chamber.

I tried to instruct Scarlet to 'wait' but the 'wait-follow' function is not availble for some reason. Hence I tend to have hard time protecting her for being killed by the tentacles. :(

It's getting frustrating because everytime it failed, I have to repeat the entire quest... ie getting caught and running around the prison court yard again. Urgh. Any idea?

p/s: I seemed to be 'wasting' a lot of time doing side quest and my character is now close to his 50. Will it affect his performance or I should finish as many quests as possible before he strikes menopause? :D

That's weird. I don't think I've ever had Scarlet get hit when I've done the quest.

So maybe this is a trick. When you enter the chamber, don't run around the pool of water. Stay at the entrance. Since Scarlet follows you, that means she'll stay behind you and stay out of range of the tentacles. It's probably also good to kill the kraken as quickly as possible. Melee works best on the tentacles and ranged against the head. And if nothing else, be sure to "hero save" when you get to the kraken so you can keep the experience from all the guards you've killed.

As for your age, it doesn't make any difference. It's just cosmetic. So do all of the sidequests you want.

Hi SWC,

Sorry if I sound really frustrated here because this quest is really long (and time consuming) and the game doesn't allow world save during a quest. Everytime I have to repeat I have to go through everything again.

In fact, I repeated the quest three times but it still didn't work. Even before the chamber, she is already vulnarable to the guards' attack. It's weird that your Scarlet didn't get hurt during the Underground Chamber battle. On my side, Scarlet couldn't even withstand a single strike of the tentacle... speaking of as warrior herself!

Could it be you were on some protective/defensive spells while you were in the battle? I believe my Hero is quite powerful himself but could it be certain attributes/spells/special weapon he needs to acquire prior to this quest?

Thanks in advance.

This sort of sounds like a bug. I don't think Scarlet is supposed to die after only one hit. I didn't use any spells at all when I fought the kraken, and I didn't have any trouble with the sequence. Plus, I haven't seen a lot of posts about the kraken, so I don't think other people have struggled against it, either.

This probably isn't what you'd like to hear, but if I were you, I'd go back to a save from before the quest, and start it completely over.

When I did the quest, Scarlet was hit twice, but she survived, so it does sound like something went wrong in your game.

I 2 suggest you should load a saved game of before you started the quest.

Good luck

Judging from your experience with that quest, it sounded more like a bug. Guess I'll try to load an earlier game and start the quest brand new.

Thanks guys. Wish me luck. :p

After hours of serious battle, I finally defeated kraken!

I did it by reloading a much earlier save and retake the quest. Surprisingly, Scarlet got hit several times but she didn't get much damage as before.

Thanks guys... Hook Coast here I come, hur hur hur :D

reload to before that quest and go to the guild, in the level up area - click on physical spells and buy "heal life" that will heal her but make sure you have mana potions
