IIRC Interplay (who owned Black Isle) ran out of money to support the department and were eventually bought by a French company Titan Productions I think. And they may have gone bankrupt too.
Lots of former Black Isle employees went over to Obsidian- who worked on KOTORII and the upcoming NWN2.

The major gaming sites probably have something in their news archives from early 2005.

Do a search in the Gamebanshee News Archives on the forums for Interplay, Troika, and Black Isle. I'm sure you'll find quite a bit. I'd also check out No Mutants Allowed (which can be found
here ) and some of the other prominent gaming news sites. You'll just have to spend some time going through their news archives. Obviosuly, Troika's shut down happened early this year (pretty much, they didn't have a new contract and ran out of money). Similarly, Black Isle closed in late 2003. (Though the saga of its parent company Interplay is ongoing). So the majority of the news articles that are pertinent will be in those years. For a broad overview Wikipedia has basic articles on
Black Isle ,
Interplay , and
Troika . So you might check those out.
As for where developers are, I'm sure there are others with a better idea than I do. I believe that several of the prominent Black Isle developers are now working for Obsidian Entertainment (i.e. KoTOR2, NWN2). Brian Fargo, who was one of the founder of Interplay, formed InXile Entertainment which is the developer on the Bard's Tale game (new version). I'm sure some of the other developers are scattered around.
As for Troika developers, they are scattered. From what I gather, some have gone to Obsidian, Soney, Activision and smaller developers.
