I think what he's asking about is the release date specific to Australia. I have no idea whether that will be identical to the US, or not.

the release will be in December

On their official webside is only mentioned holiday 2005 .....

Keevan, Malkocoglu's observations were correct at the date of his post, more than two weeks ago. I've heard that it's slipped until early December, too, but regardless, there is no reason to believe Bethsoft will wait beyond that point. The holiday revenues are too important to them.

Lets just hope so, ive known games (tihnkinh Legend of zelda ocarina of time) that was pushed from a christmas to a summer to an erly fall to a christmas again release (orsomething like that) i dont know bethsofts history on delays, i just hope its not as bad as some others, and that its not getting worse.

It's on course. I can't speak to the example you provide, Phreddie, but I can state that Bethsoft has paid for an enormous amount of PR, has already arranged its distribution channels for release of the game, and has featured several high-profile previews. You don't do all that if the game's not going be ready on time. In addition, Bethsoft has a history of releasing when they say they will.

I'm inclined to agree that Oblivion will ship before Christmas regardless because as someone pointed out the holiday revenues are extremely important.
Because of that I think they will release it no matter what condition it is in, although I hope its not as buggy as Arena was ... jeez I still have nightmares about that.
Anyway you should be able to buy it online the same day it is released in the US.

For a slightly more exact date... I heard that it is the fifth of December, but I have not had the chance to catch up with all the going ons lately. Am I correct in assuming that?

I thought I saw that somewhere as well, it gives it just enough time to get out to the stores for every ones moms and dads to buy it for christmas.

Yes, that's what they're telling reviewers and magazines. I suspect it's accurate, too. Bethsoft gets product out on time, even though, as William Bobo points out, sometimes it's buggy as--well, I was going to say buggy as Dungeon Lords, Ultima IX or Temple of Elemental Evil; but that's pushing it.

Even if it is buggy, there will be patches available for us who play on the box right?

I suspect so, if only because Microsoft is paying all the major developers a small fortune to create major game releases on the xbox.

Whoa: check
this out. Received wisdom in the gaming industry: you never, ever postpone release of a major title past the holiday season. Ever.
While this just may be a mockup by some joker, or possibly inside company info that was only be contemplated rather than accomplished, it does appear there are financial problems in the parent company. I'd love to see what's really going on, now.

On the Electronic Boutique site they have posted the date of December 5th 2005b but it also says that it's not a stable date because they may stall to develpoe the game more.

There's no such comment about "stalling" or development by the site owners up on the EB site. What it says is this:
The ship date and retail price have not been confirmed and therefore are subject to change. If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price.
While you're welcome to speculate in your own name, please don't state inaccuracies about those of other people, or various sites. Thanks.

I cannot wait for Oblivion to be released!!
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was the best Xbox RPG by far!! I mean Fable was a good runner up, but IMO Morrowind was the best!
I have a friend working at Gamecrazy, so he's gonna get the game as soon as it comes out! That is when he has an Xbox 360.
