Up until now, I've avoided the Hollywood Cemetery Zombie battle by the simple expedient of fixing up Romero and avoiding the battle entirely. It looks like I don't have that option anymore, and I just took them on for the first time. It wasn't pretty. The zombies got out with about 53 seconds to spare. There are LOTS of zombies.
I'm a bit confused, though. In the other Zombie battles, if you pop the zombie in the head, they die. If you hit them twice anywhere with a Glock, they die. I've put six shots in a Hollywood zombie and it's still moving. Since I have to run between two gates offing all of the zombies at both locations, I'm beginning to see where that quest is considered 'tough'.
It can't be that tough, though. In every other case, in all scenarios, there is a trick. Given the relative position of the two gates, I'm thinking that there is a vandage point somewhere where you can jump on top of a tomb-stone and pop zombies from either gate while at the same time being immune to having your head gnawed off.
The question being, which tomb-stone? Romero is just a ghoul, so it's not like he has Celerity or some other discipline that would help out. If he can do it, I should be able to do it with relative ease, even without Celerity.
Any ideas?

I only completed this quest once, as a Nosferatu (who aren't given the option of bringing Romero a girl). In this instance, I was able to do it all with melee. Taking the time to aim a shot at each individual zombie's head was slowing me down too much, but swinging the fire axe around could hit and knock back multiple targets.
When I got down to about 1 minute left, there were just too many zombies all over the rear gate so I stayed there and hacked away. I probably just got lucky, but I managed to keep them contained until Romero got back. As Nosferatu, I didn't have any disciplines that were at all helpful. Had to have been pure luck.
This doesn't really answer your question, but it was the one and only time I ever met with success so it's the only input I can offer.
Every time I'm in that cemetary, I look for some vantage point that can see both gates, but I haven't found one yet. Romero gives you Jamie Sue to use in your zombie slaying, so it seems logical enough that you ought to be able to find some spot from which to put it good use sniping the zombies from long range. If anyone has actually found such a spot, I too would love to know here it is.

The zombies in Hollywood are uberzombies compared to the others in Bishop Vick's lair and the Giovanni Mansion. I've completed the mission a couple of times useing unarmed and melee, and failed quite a number of times as well.
I don't use firearms much, and can't really suggest any vantage point to successfully blast zombies without the threat of them eating your cranium.
I've noticed that the zombies most frequently rise and go for the gate near Romero's shack. Both times I've completed Romero's mission zombie style, I've only had to go to the gate near the cemetary two times, then concentrated all my effort on the opposite gate.
Even with bloodbuff and presence, the zombies take quite a beating. No matter how tempting it may be to shoot or fight zombies nearest you, go for the ones attempting to smash the gate. Buy you the most time.
For the effort, it's not bad for the extra one experience point and Ranged stat raised.

Tried the quest with many chars, and i found out that a toreador is very useful.celerity helped me trough this one.Actualy,i think they do die with one hit directly in the head with a knife. You just need to be extremely accurate and skilled. No firearms at all
I didn`t manage to kill them with any other char i tried though.Tremere,Nosferatu, tremere again,Ventrue...

OK, I haven't actually tested this theory yet, but I figured I'd put it out there so that a few of us can take the proverbial kick at the cat, and maybe somebody will get lucky.
There is the breach in the wall in the Hollywood Cemetery that you enter through. You pass between two mausoleums, and then head down the hill on the path. The second tomb-stone on the right is labelled "Andrew Meggs". The first tomb-stone up-hill from "Andrew Meggs" on the same side of the path is unlabelled, but you can jump on top of it. If you jump from the top of that tomb-stone, you can land on top of the sarcophagus just up-hill from it.
From there, if you stand on the down-hill side of the top of that sarcophagus, you appear to have a clean line of sight to both of the cemetery gates, and you should be high enough that the zombies can't get you.
Just exactly how that vantage point can be exploited is not clear, but at the very least, you can see what's going on at both gates at once from a position of relative safety, and maybe you can use sniping to good advantage from there.
I'm about to sally forth and test the theory myself, but any and all are invited to participate.
Oh, and BTW, I want to thank everybody for their advice. It has been informative at the very least. I would have never considered the Melee angle - I always shoot zombies. I don't like to get within arm's-reach of the brain-sucking. Ick! At least Pisha is a bona-fide predator.

OoooKaaayy. 24 rounds, 200 zombies. Oops. That's like the 'Oops' you don't want to hear when you're touring a Nuclear Reactor 'Oops'

I allways use the melee option....the Axe is quite a nice weapon and with a high enough melee skill, one hit is usually enough....I usually concentrate on one door, killing all the zmbies near the door, then make a quick run ( celerity enhanced if possible ) to the other door....Worked for me most of the time

Waaaah!! Ah wants mah bush-hook, con-sarn it! This axe-murdering reeks. OTOH, I suppose it's not technically 'murdering'. More like 'mutilating a corpse', albeit a walking one. <grumble>

Am I the only person whos filled with a twisted kind of delight at helping the zombies smash open the gate onto the street? The thought of people staring in confusion at the groaning, staggering dead as they finaly realise whats going on, screaming in terror as the hungry, half dead monsters fall upon them with gnashing teeth, tearing flesh and watching with slack jaws and glazed eyes as their victim struggles weakly, gargling the last of their life fluid in panic and pain before the creature bites again... In down town... On a busy night... Maybe with some church music in the back ground...
Why the heck do zombies happen every night anyway?! The Appocolypse? Angry Giovanni? And what kind of prince puts ONE ghoul in charge of stopping them all and then just ignores the issue? ONE GHOUL?!
Anyway, thats me spent...

From the producers of "I Spit on Your Grave" and from the director of "Fecal Matters" comes the blockbuster that will leave you spewing every humanly bodily fluid left in your pathetic body.....

OK, I'm slow, but I am occasionally conscious. "The Evil Dead", right? Wow, it's been eons. I'd forgotten it completely. This probably belongs in the "Easter Eggs" section.

almost did it
before I decided to always use the pimp option, I had a couple of goes at the zombie shoot. in fact, it was a zombie hack really. the fire axe was VERY effective even though the colt was fun to begin with.
I got down to about 15 seconds without using celerity. I was not chuffed at them breaking out at that point. it shows that it must be possible was a hack attack.
if you leave the quest until after Chinatown, you can get the killmatic for use in single shot mode, but the colt probably is enough. I didn't know the vantage point, but colt+height should be enough. just don't waste ammo.
