Detect Illusion

I am going to start up another game (when I get bored with my druid) I am either going down the f/m, f/illusionist, t/m or f/t route. However, my question is does detect illusion actually work? And if so, what range does it need to become effective... and if it is passive...

It works the excact same as detect traps, and the detect traps icon is what you press. As with Detect Traps, it is best used close up. So those werewolf illusions in the circus sill go bye bye but I don't know if you get experience.
just put at some points in detect illusion.

If you have about 100% into detect illusion then it'd take less than one round to dispel every illusion. As for range I'm not quite sure, but it'd be for the line of sight for the thief.
While detecting illusions your thief can't do anything else save walk around.

The thiefs detect illusion skill is actually quite powerfull, because it can remove all sorts of combat illusions.
The main problem with it is that you need to have "detect traps" active, which means in a combat situation it is harder to control then casting dispelling spells.
But it is quite powerfull if beefed up.

I've never gotten XP for neither killing nor dispelling the Wolfwares (or what they are) illusions in the circus.

If your thief is a good one then it's definitely worth putting points into the detect illusion spell.
It's very powerful, has no casting time, cannot be interupted and even when stunned the thief will continue to destroy illusions.
Unlimited castings as well, still tactically it's important to have more than one character with detection abilities as well.

A good example of it is with the evil adventurers in the area called North Forest. It works like true sight in that it makes 1 check every round. It's not as powerful though because aerie had the Staff of Magi and it did'na dispell it.
