I'm talking about the group that come from a room to your right. They are joined by some mummies and a ghast.
These bastards are dead hard!

fire of the daystars sunray ability, that usually killas most vampires or just use a protection from undead scroll on one character and send him/her in alone

I positioned Minsc and my Undead Hunter directly in the doorway, and cast negative plane protaection on Minsc. made short work of the vampires. Take away their level drain, and all you really need to worry about is domination. But with weapons like Lilcor, that's not a big worry either.
In my opinion, Minsc is a Vampire killer extrordiaire.

this daystar sunray, that's spell right? what level is it. I guess I'll have to import a protection from undead spell with a trainer. I'll be damned if I go back all the blinkin' way to Atkathla (sp?)
thanks though. Can a char with protection from undead be harmed by undead?

1. If you have a cleric in your party, cast invisibility or santuary on them and have walk in there, turn undead and destroy as many as they can.
2. If you cannot do the above then get the person in your party wearing the amulet of power if you have it to lure then out one at a time and jump them.
3. Bottom line if you don't have a cleric or someone that can tank and wear the amulet of power like jahaira or cerned or nalia or jan..then you might wanna consider coming back later.

the daystar is a longsword with an ability to cast sunray but it is a spell also divine spell at 7th level
about the protection from undead scroll... i don't think they notice you at all if you cast it on someone... i think...

Damn.
Is there an easy way to gain that sword? like, telling the liche how nice his hair is, kick him in the jimmys and then grab the sword and run while he is lying on the floor, groping his dried up groin?

Actually you can steal the sword right under his nose, if you have a thief in your party, haste them or not if you are fast...send them in pick the chest, take the sword and run out the lich is too slow to follow you.

One easy way to kill them if you dont have any form of undead protection is to have someone invisible or hideing in shadows block the doorway while your ranged weapons/spells wipes them out.

No way. It is lich. Timestop, meteor shower etc. Invisibility does not work for litches, only prot.from undead does.
The easiest way is to set prot. from undead on thief, send him in, get the Daystar, identify it, hack the lich until it becomes "red" (if it is blue, Sunray doesn't work for me), Daystar's Sunray and hack again. Pair thief/fighter, both (if not the same person) shielded, is the best. Azuredge is worth to use, too, it's the best undead bane early in the game, the problem is to get one with axe prof., though.

This lich is rather deficient in some things, it is totally vulnerable to mage or sorc with mislead on, you can get that crucial first spell in from your sorc,

Anyway, it does see through invisibility, does cast timestop, meteor shower and other unpleasant things. Low level party does not have any chance if it isn't very quick or cute. And, if you know beforehand, there are no really hard liches, Jan can kill them all for me with little assistance of others

Returning to the subj.
I've used two ways.
The first is obvious if you have cleric high enough to turn vampires (they are level 9, IIRC).
The second is using the Azuredge (one should finish the first part of slavery quest before, though). Block doorway with, say, fire elementals or mountain bears and keep throwing Azuredge. In my experience at least one hit form 4-5 destroys a vampire at once, and 4-5 hits are enough even if their saves do not fail (insane difficulty). Most often the problem is to have one skilled in axe (first + i give to Keldorn) or even to have one who may use it (have never been able to see the reason why, say, thieves couldn't use axes).

No no the best way is to have 5 fire elementals hasted thas has defensive harmony and sit back let them do the work for me hehe or i could just let me self and Cernd turn into a greater werewolf and hack them to bits.
There's more ways to kill them then use swords and spells.

I was in the Windspear Hills area, and what I did was lure them all into a kill zone in the first area where all those guys are firing their arrows, you just have to position your long range weapons at one of those slits, then cast chaotic commands on your character, and then lure the vampires in one by one into the chamber, and then your range fighters can murder the vampires one by one, keep repeating until the vampires are all gone. Use your cleric's minor restoration ability to restore the tank's character. Me I use my main character with boots of speed I gained in the Astral prison. Then when I had them in the chamber I just hacked the vampires to death. I know this tactic might be cheese but for me it works, because the main problem is that the vampires attack in groups you separate them all and you hack them to little itty bitty undead pieces.

Did anyone else find that the vampires and mummies would re-spawn after you had a rest. I found this to be nice since there is loads of exp in that room.
I did not find this room to hard just pulled them out one at a time and did a quick hack and slash. With the protection spells of coarse. The level drain is one of the most anoying things in the game.

About respawning - it's my favorite place to earn XP (going also to next room with shades) together with mists area on level 1. They respawn all the way until Firekraag is dead or chapter II ends (not sure what's the cause for my Firekraag is always dead at the end of Ch.II). In my experience, though, they respawn if the party leaves Windspear Hills on returning. As well as in the Keep there is a limited respawning of trolls on ground and 1st floor on return to the Keep area. One more place is the Underdark exit (see the thread about ElvenChain+1), though there it's limited.
There is some respawning also if you stay around, but it's very limited in terms of times it happens and range of monsters.
1st level almost always present to me at least 6 vampiric mists (6000 XP), and the room behind one where vampires are on 1st approach there are some (6-10) shadows of different sizes. No vampires, not any more, though. It happened to meet greater werewolves here in my first games, but no any more now, sorry.
