I am doing a solo run with a kensai/thief (duel classing thief at 15) and could use some boots of speed! Any idea what the earliest to obtain them is?

Yes, that is the quickest way. If you don't feel comfortable soloing that entire place you could side with Bodhi and eventually kill Renal for his boots. (Highlight to read)

...Or you could cheat...but you will have to figure that out for yourself.

Spellhold.

the token machine is in the spellhold maze , 2nd floor

the absolute quickest way is to import them on your BG 1 char with the pause/drop exploit.

what do you mean by this?

right after the char. creation screen is done and it's about to start and it shows the loading screen the split second before the dungeon shows, hit space bar and hit your backpack icon on the left. drop all your stuff you want to keep and go back to the game screen. hit space again and wait for the movie to end and when Immy bounces you it's still there on the ground

Spellhold could be the quickest way, depending on what order you do quests in.

He will give you the quest and place the locations on your map. His servant will contact you as you approach the government building (center top of screen). - Curdis !

or you could talk to the little boy in the government square named delon.

Or go to Valygar's house in the docks and talk to his servant and read the letter on the second floor.

Thanks, that now means that I can have 4 pairs of boots of speed in the game and that will help a lot. Unfortunately, I have not played the first one yet as I lent out my disks and never got them back. But if I do that then there will be 5 and my entire party will then all have boots of speed.
