greetings,
I want to dl some mods for morrowind and I come up with the error of not being able to open them because they are not finished downloading, even though a dl box said it was done. How would I fix this problem?

What exactly is the text you see when you try loading those mods?

well, it showed the download box, and after a few moments said it was done, then it wouldn't show in the TES CS file box like morrowind or tribunal or any of those other mods do. I'd look at the total amount dled and there would always be about 15% or so missing from the file, and from there I couldn't open it properly. Some files I see have .ace instead of .exe or .esp. How would I fix this problem? more so, how would I open the dled files like .ace?

Sounds like you need a new download manager. I suggest GetRight, which if I recall correctly, is both excellent and a freebie. Google on that, download and install it, then try again after first deleting the unfinished downloads. See if that helps.

You also need an unzipping programme such as Winace or Zip Genius (Zip Genius is very nice because it handles a wide variety of packaging). Do a search on Google, they are easy to find.

There are various guides to using mods that you should look at, but in brief:

1. Use appropriate programme to unzip the mod into a folder you have created with the mod's name on it. You should end up with a plug-in and possibly some folders entitled meshes, textures, icons, sounds etc. etc. Sometimes only a plug-in will be present, depending on the type of mod.

2. While in the folder copy all the contents that have been unzipped (i.e the plug-in, sounds folder etc)

3. Go into your main Morrowind file and hit paste. You will get a box saying file "x" already exists; select "replace, yes to all"

4. Load your game and go to "Data Files." put a checkmark beside the plug-in(s) in question.

That's it :)

Notes:
1.*Always* make backups of your save games and data files folder before installing any mods.
2.Be aware that some mods may conflict, check the readmes thoroughly prior to installing
3.What I have just outlined is the manual method of installation. You can usually just unzip the contents of a package directly into your MW folder. However, I find this way to be far more sureproof.

hmm, I should try that...
but there's a problem i've just run over with zip files that I've opened: whenever I try to open it with the morrowind tes set, it says ' Texture Load Error!: Textures\_land_default.tga ' . How would I solve that? and is the downloading item you've recommended able to be put on a disc so I may take it home and put it on my comp?*it was hit by a virus and everything had to be wiped including internet access*

The zipfile is okay if you can extract from it. It sounds like one of two possible problems. Either that zipfile accidentally left the TGA file out, or when you unzipped it, you placed that TGA file in the wrong place, and the game can't find it.

To install mods correctly everytime, go here and click on the mod installation tutorials. They're very good, and well-written.

If that doesn't work, try opening the readme file that came with the mod and see if the modder has a website of their own. Check it out, and look for a patch.
