Hi, so i installed bg1 tutu, but i realised i knew the whole story of bg1 without ever having played the game so i ran tutu-restore, well that messed up bg2 (wouldn't load previous saved games). Ok i said, no big deal i'll reinstall. Well ToB unistalled fine then i thought SoA also, but nope SoA's messed up and "stays" on my comp no matter what i do and when i put in the cd it asks me if i want to play instead of installing.

So now i'm ****ed, can i do anything? 'Cause the game is off my comp already.

I think its because the registration doesn't unsinstall (I've had similar problems and thats what caused it), so I downloaded RegCleaner and I make sure that after unistalling I delete the registration manually.

It may be possible to remove the entry from the computer using 'Add/Remove Programs' from the Control Panel. Even though BGII is uninstalled, it may show it as installed. Trying to uninstall it from there may prompt it to remove any registry entry from the system.
I'd recommend doing that before trying any registry editing programs.

Normally I would to, but for some reason the add/remove programs option never does a full install for me, that's why I ended up downloading the regcleaner thing. Don't know whether its something to do with the specific edition I'm using but simply uninstalling never works.

Well for me the unistallation usually works, but now somethings screwed up there (i recently ... packed.. i dunno how to say it in english but the programs like winrar and zip do it... so anyway i've done that to my whole C: drive, all unused files got zipped up could be that) might be that.

Anyway here's the exact thing BG2 does; i run the uninstall and it fires the install shield up and jumps to 100% in a second and well, thats it.

I'll try that regcleaner program.

EDIT: tried that regcleaner program and the entry bioware corp blablah ... etc is still there i tell it to remove it and it simply returns.

EDIT2:OOOkay now it seems to be gone from the registry but the CD still asks me to play instead of installing (I tried the ToB CD and it asked to install... maybe i should le it install and see what it does  )

Is it possible just to run the setup.exe file straight from the CD ignoring the autoloader?
It may just ask you if you want to uninstall though... :(

Oh that is possible, that was the first thing i tried, the setup.exe asks "Do you want to completely remove the application and all of its components?"

But nevermind, I plowed through some faqs on the Bioware site...
1.11: [BGII/ToB] - How to manually uninstall BGII:

1.) Uninstall using the shortcut in the BG2 Start menu or the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel. The game files should be removed from the user's hard drive and the shortcuts removed from the Start menu.

2.) If step 1 failed, run "baldur.exe" from the CD. It should notify the user that the previous installation attempt failed and that they should try reinstalling the game using the program's Install button.

3.) If step 2 failed, edit the "baldur.ini" file in the directory where the game was installed. Look for the "Installing" key under the "Program Options" section, set it to 1 ("Installing=1"), save the file and repeat step 2.

4.) If step 3 failed, edit the system registry using the regedit / regedit32 utility. Remove the following keys: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ App Paths \ BG2Main.exe - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall \ {8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47}

5.) Go to your Program Files directory and find the hidden directory "InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the directory labeled "{XXXXXXXX}"

6.) Manually delete all the files and directories created by the previous installation attempts (this should return the system to its state before the original installation attempt) and try again to install from the CD.
Well i deleted the bgmain.exe entry in that nicely hidden app paths whatever and that fixed the problem. With the coimbination of 4, 5 and step 6 i was able to fix it. Next time I'll go straight to the creators of the game (sorrey).

Edited installation information in your registry. You put a code in there, and anybody with a little programming experience could use that and a BG2 crack to run the game. One other thing: please watch the vulgarities, as in your first message. Read the forum rules again, which you agreed to abide by when you joined. Yeah, I know; my vocabulary is probably a lot bluer than yours. But we're on a Host in the US, everybody's nanny is out to complain, and the site owner knows of sites that have been taken by such remarks on a family boad. Which GameBanshee is. Thanks. --fable
