**SPOILER**Tribunal -- How to Get Out of Forgotten Sewers?

I've started Tribunal, and have entered Godsreach and picked up a fighting partner.
Here's the situation: My buddy got stuck and quit following me as we swam toward Forgotten Sewers to meet up with the crazy lady who has all these weird artifacts that can do damage.
Well, since my buddy quit following me -- he just kept swimming toward a large pipe and wouldn't turn around to come with me -- I told him to just wait for me there.
I went ahead and made it past all the damaging artifacts and faced the crazy lady and killed her.
I've search all over this vacant place for a switch, door, trap door, or any other way to exit the sewers. So far, though, the only way I've been able to find is the way I came in. BUT, there are two artifacts at one opening that, no matter how much I boost my health, my shield, or other things, these two artifacts kill me outright as soon as I approach.
So, is this the only way out or should I continue searching?
Thanks!
PS It seems to me that Tribunal is a little more 'buggy' than Morrowind. Is that pretty much the case?
