Ranger/Cleric

I was wondering why I hear so many good things about this ranger/cleric multiclass? What makes it so special, and better than, say, a fighter/cleric or a paladin/cleric (if those are even possible, I don't feel like checking).
Just.. why RANGER/cleric?

Cleric/Rangers have stealth, a racial enemy bonus, and access to all Druid spells as well as all Cleric spells, giving them every ability a Fighter/Cleric has plus more.

Paladin/Clerics are not possible.

It's been answered before, but it is because you can cast druid and cleric spells, not just cleric spells.

Thanks for responding. If I'm not mistaken though, whenever I talk to people about druid spells in BG1, everyone replies with "druids suck." And rangers hardly get any druid spells.. I just don't see the big fuss. :(

Rangers dont need to be high enough to get the spells, just the cleric has to be able to cast that level of spells that the druid spell is on. Mostly druid spells dont get good until SoA (BG2). :mischief:

Oooh, so that's the trick. That IS good... Thanks.

Just stating the obvious, but, just to illustrate: imaging your r/c buffing up with all kinds of protection and THAC0- and strength-improving spells, casting Nature's Beauty, then Creeping Doom... :mischief: then punching out whoever's left of the opposition...

Ranger can also dual class to cleric. imho better than multiclass.

A Ranger/Cleric seems to have the best of all worlds in my opinion. Not only do they get all the Cleric and Druid spells but they get the Ranger Special Abilities. At level 7 my R/C has in her Special Abilities department 4 charm animals, 4 healings, 4 slow poisons and 4 draw upon holy might. When you add the whole combo of high strength, special abilites, Cleric and Druid spells it makes for a powerful player. In BG2 there is a Ranger quest which will earn a moondog, a fierce dog that can be cast once a day who fights evil. Also when leveling up this combo has the best numbers.

Also, the healing, slow poison and draw upon holy might spells are Bhaalspawn powers, not ranger abilities.
But you're right, the r/c isvery powerful and versatile.

That is interesting. I wonder why I did not get any of those powers when I played a fighter and a fighter/cleric. I don't use the charm animal but surely do use the other three abilities. The healing powers and slow poisons are used at twice the speed as spell casting and makes them powerful tools in the mist of battle.

The only reason I can imagine is that your fighter was of different alignment. If your pc is evil (s)he gets other Bhaalspawn powers, like, for instance, Vampiric Touch.

Can a Ranger/Cleric be a multiclass character? I thought it could only be a dual...

Yes, it's open to halfelves only.

IMHO, the multiclass is better, especially with ToB installed.
