Ok, is it just me or are these Maxim ads coming up more than too often?
I find them extremely inappropriate.

Can you elborate a tad more? Maxim is hardly pornographic material, not to mention the fact they are contained to specific locations of the website, with nothing provoking clicking on them. Just saying, that's all.

I don't know, I'm just concerned on specific things, like the women's positions...

Weird. Never saw that ad before. The one with the car gunning it with the helicopter accross my screen, sure, as it stops me from clicking links, but not this one. It does not really matter to me, as it is no worse then driving to work in the morning. Besides, it is supporting Gamebanshee. :)

It might help if they were an equal opportunities employer

I never saw that ad either. I don't mind, it does not violate forum rules since it is not sexually explicit. The girls positions are less sexualised than you see in a standard fashion magazine of the type that young girls and boys read. Not to mention the chainmail bikini girls you see in fantasy pictures.

It really doesn't bother me at all. And if it is supporting Game Banshee, and the company is not promoting slavery or something similarly heinous, I honestly don't see the problem.
Besides, I saw one for Trojans the other day, so at least it balances things out :D

And CE makes a good point. Often the girls in gaming and fantasy images are portrayed in a far more explicit manner.

Unfortunately, you will find that specific Maxim advertisement on a vast majority of all entertainment websites that have a similar demographic as ours. I don't necessarily like how explicit it is, but I think you'll find many mainstream advertisements in magazines, on the internet, and elsewhere that are far worse.

I don't actually sell the ads, so the best I could do is bring it to the attention of UGO (my advertising provider). I can certainly do this, but it will most likely just result in fewer advertising impressions rather then being replaced iwth something more appropriate.

ehm... what about this one? it has popped up a couple of times now...

the picture below shows a "lightly" dressed woman, just so you know....

@Grimar,
admittedly, I'm somewhat surprised by that particular ad.
However, the reality is that advertisers want to reach the 18-35 year-old market... Gaming forums such as this one are a prime site for them, and they help to make it possible for forums to survive, and maybe even profit in a medium where revenues, while very slowly increasing (in some cases), are still extremely precarious.
For those people who have a big issue with ad content on Game Banshee, I suggest they send Buck a credit card number that he can use to maximum need rather having said ads running.

An advertisement like that should not be showing up. I have my doubts that it is showing up as a result of code that is on GameBanshee, but if you can somehow confirm it, I will make sure it is removed. Are you absolutely certain that it isn't part of some sort of third-party ad system that you may or may not know is installed on your computer?

it posps up sometime in the "this advirtesement will appear once every 24 hours" thing. it has happend twice, but once with an other pic.

as for answering your question buck. i dont think i have any spyware or similar things (done a virus and spyware scan recently), but not 100% sure...

and it isnt that i get offended by the add, just that i dont think that it's a nice "introduction" to the site for new visitors...!

i have edited my previus post in case someone get offended by the pic!

I still have a tough time believing that UGO would put an ad like that into rotation, but I suppose crazier things have happened. If you see it again (or any other inappopriate ads, for that matter), please take a screenshot showing your entire browser window (including URL). That way, I can forward the image on to UGO and request that the ad be taken down.

Well, there have been some new advertisement for trojan ********s coming accross the screen at the top every so often as well... It seems to go for an hour, about 9 PM where I am. 11 PM New York time, and 4 AM in London.

Ah, I see said word is on the censor. :o

What is with the mods here taking stuff so seriously? Chill out man! Nobody is insulting anyone, no personal attacks going on, just a little non-offensive fun. That's why people come to forums like this, to have fun!

It is what we are asked to do by Buck Satan to keep off-topic posting minimal and mainly confined to the Speak Your Mind forum, where there are plenty of threads for going off-topic.
People comming to the board to find answers to their gaming problems (ei. non spam-threads) don't want to wade through post after post not relevant to the topic at hand, just to find the answers they need.

If you dislike current policy, then you can contact Buck Satan and express your concerns, in which case he can change the policy if he deems it needed. But untill then....
Please do not spam. We are more lenient on spam in the Speak Your Mind forum, but excessive amounts will not be tolerated.
