Multi-Class HPs and Feats Q's

Hey, despite all the bad reviews I'm enjoying this immensely even with its quirks. Takes me back to my PnP days, where turn-based strategy and tactics mattered most, rather than pretending to be someone else....

I am a bit frustrated with the number of HPs at level up. The game seems VERY stingy. When I multiclassed my 1st level half-elf cleric to a paladin, the game would give me no more than 4 points even with a const of 14. When I levelled up my multiclass half-elf thief/sorcerer to sorcerer level 2 I could only get one point with a const of 11! This also happened when I first multiclassed him to sorcerer from a 1st level thief. Multiple retries with reloading resulted in the same numbers. Is this supposed to happen to challenge the player, or is this a bug?

I also was wondering about feats for multi-class guys. Do you gain feats on the feat schedule for each class as it levels or do you get feats based on the total of all of the character's class levels? When I multi-classed to a new additional sorcerer class, I didn't get a new first level feat, so I was thinking that it is the total character class level? But it may have been because Toughnesss can only be got at the first total character level, so I got no feat? So if I want my sorcerer-thief to get the 1st level sorcerer feat Toughness, I need to start him as a sorcerer?

Except for those feats you can only get at the first total character level, do you get the same feats in the same order as you level up for a class no matter how you interleave the level ups between the classes? For example, would my sorcerer-thief have the same feats at the end of 12 levels if he levelled up either like 1S,2S,3S,4S,5S,6S,1T,2T,3T,4T,5T,6T or like 1T,1S,2T,2S,3T,3S,4T,4S,5T,5S,6T,6S?

Please let me know,
Thanks!

Thrasher,

1. I think it is a bug- it didn't seem to happen to me and I haven't seen that posted beofer- I finished the game 4 times-- BUT to "even things out" in the HP area- you could use the "glitch" I discovered- look for my post on Klusaar's Amulet.

2. I am not sure about the feats- the game, of course, generates them all for you, and I THINK it is based on your first class, not any multi-class.

Hi Thrasher91604 and welcome
Just one question have you got all the patches for the game?
there are 4 i think and i also think you have to install them all, i could be wrong here.
Just i never had any problems with the hp's not sure about the feats.

Wow, thanks for the quick welcome!

For a game that has been so badly bashed, it's amazing to see all the traffic this "old" game gets on this forum!

Well, the UBISOFT site did not provide install instructions on which patches to apply and how, so I fished around forums and http://www.poolofradiance.com and determined I should install as follows:

- Install the game using the "1.1 install patch" (note: this spun me around a bit - it's really not a "patch" per se that you install on top of an existing installation. It's an actual installer that installs the program for the first time from the CDs! It also patches the uninstaller so it doesn't accidently wipe your hard drive! It didn't install very well though - all the shortcuts in the start menu it created were broken and had to be fixed...
- install the 1.4 patch on top of that.

I think the European version has a different patch sequence, but I'm not sure on that.

So it runs fine now. Only got laggy once when there were 8 orcs in combat. Looping crackly sound was fixed by turning basic directx sound hw accel on.

I think I found an answer to the HP at level up bug at http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/ultimatebb ... 5/190.html. Apparently, if you level up while equiping any item that gives you a positive CON bonus, the number of HPs received is decreased. The reverse is true, too. Negative bonuses to your CON increase the number of HPs at level up. That's a rather crazy bug! The Constitution+1 ring is probably behind my woes. I'll take it off and see what happens! I may equip the bloodstone amulet though to ease my frustration. :)

The feats strangeness is still not explained though. I noticed that when I leveled up my first level cleric to MC as a paladin level 1, he didn't get the improved critical feat either. So it seesm like receiving feats is related to total character level. Should I level up the paladin once his total levels would become 3 to get the crit feat or would I get the level 3 feat on the paladin schedule (whichever that is)?

I did get my second rogue feat when I levelled using this pattern Rogue-Sorcerer-Rouge. Now I think a rougue is supposed to get a new feat everytime he levels up, so maybe that's why it worked or maybe because it was the 3rd level? I'll experiment some more tonight.

If anyone can explain how the feats are assigned to multiclassed characters, I'd very much appreciate it.

Also, if anyone knows of a place where I can find a complete bug list with workarounds, that would be ever so useful!

Update

OK. This is strange. When I tried again to level up my 1/1 Rogue/Sorcerer to 1/2 Rogue/Sorcerer last night, the game did give me the Toughness feat. That was with the constitution ring off, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Go figure!

What I have learned so far.... It appears that when you reach the level for your next feat, and you level up in a particular class, you get the next feat in the sequence for that class.

Here's another question. Suppose you already have that feat from one of your other classes. Does the game skip over it and give you the next new feat, or do you get no new feat for that level up?

If anyone knows about this, please post!

Thanks!

Constitution Hp bug

I would like to confirm this bug:

If you are wearing a + constitution item that causes you to gain an additional bonus; when you level the amount gained from the bonus will be subtracted instead of added to your total. Example Your normal Con score is 16, (+3 Mod)you are wearing boots that give you a plus 2 to your Con (+4 Mod) for a net increase of +1 to your normal mod. When you level you will earn one less HP.

If for example we are talking about a fighter (1d10) you should be getting 1d10 + 4 for a max of 14 HP and a min of 5 HP when you level up, but instead you are getting 1d10 + 4 with a -1 added after the initial calculation. For a max of 13 HP and min of 3 HP.

Furthermore this bug works in both directions. If you have a - Con item that would give a penalty this process works in reverse. Using the above example of a fighter with a -1 Mod penalty you would actually have a max of 15 and a min of 5 HP.

I tested this very thoroughly. Using a Onglore’s Amulet (+2 Con +2 Str) and the Necklace of the Dead (+ 3 AC, -1 Con)

Regarding feats:

For every class except Fighter, the game assigns them to you (based on the class you're leveling in) at your PC's level 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30. So you can have a maximum of 11 feats; 12 if you're a Human.

Fighters get their feats, however, based on their Fighter level (not the PC's overall level). They get two feats* at levels 1, 6 and 12; plus a feat at levels 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 14 and 16. And this is in addition to any other feats they may learn from their other class.

So if you have a multiclass fighter/cleric, for example, you'd want to make sure you leveled up as a Cleric when your PC's overall level is at 1, or 3, or 6, etc. Otherwise you'd never see any of the clerical feats you were hoping for (like Extra Turning, Combat Casting or Spell Penetration).

I have a strategy guide that lists which feats each class gets, in what order; I'll transcribe it here if anyone is interested.

*But they only learn both feats if they didn't already have either feat. Otherwise, they get just the one they were missing (or the next one on the list, if they somehow already had them both).

A little thread necromancy never hurt anyone... ;)

Your observations agree with my experience although I never played a MC fighter, so that's new info. Thanks!

I have the same strategy guide with the feat schedule, but maybe someone else would be interested?
