Knight statues do nothing

In the shadow ruins fire spout area, I know that hitting "shift" next to the statues of the knights is supposed to raise a platform or something, to shorten the jumping distance--but nothing happens when I hit shift. What am I doing wrong?

It's the same action as that taken for doors. I imagine you should see the the same description bar at the bottom of your screen. If not, move closer to the statue ( on your right as you proceed).

Thanks, I think there is a problem with my game. I stand next to the statue every which way. The identifier comes on, telling me this is a knight. I hit shift. But there is no slight pause in the game, as with other things in the game, to indicate that something is happening. Nothing to indicate that something even needs to be done. Does something happen? Can you tell by looking at the automap that something has happened? How hard is the jump after the platform is raised? Because right now its still impossible, and I think the platform isn't raised.

You haven't any time to waste. As soon as you hit shift head for the jump. The platform doesn't stay up for long. Hopefully, you didn't save while in there. That might mess up your game.

Maybe you're 'operating' the statue on your left !?
The one on the right raises the lift.
The one on the left opens a secret door on the left of the platform.
To get to the secret area you have to be very quick!
Activate right, then left, then hurry at left of platform.

The platform that rises is on the other side of the fire and can be hard to see. I don't think there are any known bugs in this area. Save your game before clicking on the statue (so you can just restart if you miss), start a time crystal (optional), click on the statue to the right, click on the statue the left, run through the fire and jump at the edge of the platform. When you land turn left and head in to the little room there to open a chest that has some nice trinkets in it. D
