This has been covered before, but I can't find the original posting.

Anyway, can any of you guys please help - I can't kill Kangaxx the Demilich. I get him to 'near death', but he just won't die. (After about 20mins at near death, I gave up!)

Remembering a suggestion in an earlier posting, I've used 'True Sight' on him but this doesn't help.

Is this just a bug? Any help would be appreciated.

Well since you can stand hitting him for 20 mins without him imprisoning or killing you, why dont you load and try taking him again?

and why do you bother hitting him for 20 mins?

He didn't try anything such as imprisioning because by this time he had nothing left!

I've tried reloading, going off to different areas and returning, trying another quest and returning. Nothing changes. The Lich is just stubborn!

Do you use a Scroll of Protection from Undead???

and have your char protected from undeath???
in that chase the lich will not die because he can't 'see' u he doesn't give his deathspeech.
if only one char has prot. from undeath u must hack on him with some pets like fire elemental and when he is killed by something that ain't protected by undeath he will give his speech and will die.

No. My party are capable of taking anything Kangaxx has to offer without suffering too much injury.

The problem is just finishing him off.

If you are using the "Fake Talk" strategy to kill Kangaxx, he won't die.

Just tried it again. No charactures were 'protected from death'. Kangaxx got to 'Near Death' but refused to die.

If you're having trouble killing him then just clobber him with the Mace of Disruption. IIRC a lucky hit will kill him INSTANTLY. Even the regular +1 version works I think.

When i was playing, i kept on having to cast pierce magic so that he was vunerable and i then had to cast breech a number of times so that my 'fighters' could actually do damage otherwise it was just saying weapon ineffective. Is it possible you just need to cast breech again?

Befor you fight, pickpocket him, for a nice ring. Then buy some srollc of Magic Shielding or whatever nice (high level) magival defense, and some 'Freedom' spells. Protect one of your NPC's (I used Aerie) and protect her with the magic, then let all you fightersattach him (with abre fists or +3 weapons). This should get the bastards, but remember, you have to do this the seconth time he dies and returns even stronger! The first time is not very difficult. If some Npc's are imprisont, use Freedom spells, but make sure YOU do NOT get imprissont. Try this stategy several times if it does not wotrk directly, or seacrh other strategies to beat the bastard on this Forum. The nice thing on 'my' startegy is that you get another nice ring of hijm when he's finished.

If you don't know what "Fake Talk" is then it is WAY too cheesy to explain on these boards and might actually spoil the gameplay for some folks.

To avoid getting spoiled by the whole FAQ, do a "find" for Fake Talk. There is also a section in there on how to kill Kangaxx, some of the hints might help you get past this problem.

The easiest way to kill Kangaxx is to transform into a slayer. But that does only work if you have come so far in the game. If you havent come so far shalli not say anything about it.
Otherwise is the best way to kill K. to use scroll of magic protection and use it on your best warrior. He has to have like +4 or +5 weapons to hurt him. Gessens bow does also hurt him.

Thanks for all your comments guys. I shall try them all out and see if any of them solve my problem.

I did actually get an email from someone saying that he had had the same problem with with one of the other liches. He had also heard that the same problem had arisen with somebody else, but this time it was Irenicus who refused to die.

Who knows - perhaps it is a bug

You have to keep in mind that Kangaxx is wearing the ring of Gaxx, which means that he's regenerating hp at a rate of 1 every 3 seconds. If you don't have enough people pounding on him, he gets better instead of dying. Add to that the fact that you have to have +4 weapons just to hit him and you only do 2 or 3 damage per hit when you DO manage to connect, sometimes it's like taking 2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

Not a spoiler, just a real specific strategy which is somewhat cheesy but works for me every time.....

I had Yoshimo set as many traps all around the sarcophogus as ToB would let me (I think it's six) to kill the lich part of Kangaxx right away. I also had Nalia set four or five (however many she could memorize) Skull traps as far in the SW corner of the room as I could target. Nalia cast Spell Immunity Abjuration and Spell Immunity Necromancy and stood next to the Sarcophogus with the Staff of the Magi. Jaheira stood next to the Sarcophogus with the Staff of Rynn. All other characters were as close to the exit as possible, AI off, except for Anomen, who had Everard's sling and Ring of Ram. Anomen equipped a scroll of Magic Protection from Adventurer's Mart and then used Vailor's helm to cast Simulacrum. The Simulacrum used the Scroll of Magic Protection on Jaheira (cheesy I know, but I might need that thing later ) Nalia opened the coffin, and Kangaxx the lich was destroyed by Yoshi's traps. Then both Anomen and Anomen's Simulacrum used the ring of the Ram on the demilich to shove him back into the SW corner and the Skull traps. Anomen(s), Jaheira and Nalia pounded him for a minute and "poof" dead Kangaxx.

Am I right in assuming that Kangaxx is probably the hardest enemy in the game? Irenicus certainly wasn't as hard to defeat.

One Mage, Polymorph Self, a buttload of Melf's Minute Meteors, and you have one dead Lich.

One Mage, Spell Immunity - Abjuration, a buttload of Melf's Minute Meteors, and perhaps Improved Haste, and you have one dead Demilich.

Polymorph into what, Xyx? My guys manage to get killed by Howl even when polymorphed for some reason. That's also the reason for the Spell Immunity Necromancy.

I never could get enough damage with just one person to counteract the regeneration. Never tried Melf's minute meteors, but it doesn't seem that they last long enough...even if I could hit him with 'em.

Forget any other strategies people have posted (no offence).

To beat Kangaxx, run over to Ribald and buy a 'Protection From Magic' scroll.

Go back to the Lich's tomb and use the scroll. Now, have ANY fighter, with a weapon of 4+ or better enchantment. Thats it. No mess, no fuss, One scroll and a fighter. I used Keldorn with the Carsomyr to take him down.

B.T.W The scroll lasts for 10 rounds...approx 15 minutes. If you want, buy another scroll, Ribald has 2 (just incase something goes wrong)

hey,
if u want to do something really devious.... buy the prot from magic scoll and use it on kangaxx....works like a charm!
