Golden Warriors's Tip of the day...
Greetings and salutations! I am new to the GB site, so I thought I'd introduce myself...Here is my tip of the day...
You know those ubiquitous, moss stained, ancient pilons or columns that appear all over the wilderness areas? You can climb them very easily (forward+jump 4 to 5 times) and stand on the top of them. From this vantage you can calmly pick off enemies with ranged or magical attacks. This is great in the beginning of the game, especially for wolf packs, spiders, snakes and rats, as thieves and goblins too (as long as they don't have several archers). You can shinny down slowly and pick up items when you're halfway down, then climb up again quickly. I usually get to lvl 5 this way before I even enter the Fargrove Sewers! You can also use this technique against some large creatures like borloth, or the trolls that attack you when you first get to the Talendor moonbridge! This does not work with Chunnelers!
Enjoy, Golden Warrior
p.s. If you liked this tip, check this thread now and then (or subscribe to it) for additional tips that I will post from time to time...

Well, I imagine a few of you might be jumping up on pilons by now, but I can see that not very many of you were impressed with my little tip...hummm...only one reply, so...
You would like to kill a few Fire Drakes in your mid-game so you can move up a few levels, wouldn't you? They are, after all, worth over 210,000 experience points! The following is GW's methode operandi for hunting them down and chopping them up like so much putrid rat meat...
Fire Beasties hate the Cold...
Software:
First you'll need some Cold Arcane Magic. You'll want to have at least 10 charges each of both Iceball and Ice Shards. Then you'll need at least 5 Celestial Fire Ward Crystals. If you want, Rune Magic Sanctuary is also good but not neccesary.
Hardware:
Next obtain either the Winter Dagger (there are 2 of them to be found in 2 different chests in Fathiens Digs at Ulm, and you only need level 3 Magic Weaponry to use it) or the Ice Scepter (see the most helpful Spoilers Treasure Map posted by ferncliff, spot# 37) Lastly, you will want the Shield of Sorrow, which gives you 100% Pro Cold. It is located in one of the 3 treasure chests in the Drakes Breeding Grounds, (again, see the STM spot # 9) but you'll need Heavy Shield level 8, and Strenth 58 to wield it.
Now you're ready...
When you're close to the Drakes, stop and activate a Fire Ward Crystal. They last for about 90 seconds, a long time in combat. You will be impervious to their fire blasts. Dance on their nests to taunt them abit, and steal an egg or two. They'll soon be upon you. Then blast away at them with Iceballs and Ice Shards. They will freeze for a second, which will give you time to run right up into their faces...you can get right up under one of the beasties throats. Start stabbing them with your Dagger or blast them with your Scepter... they will only twitch a bit like frozen spasmodic lambs led to the slaughter...if they wiggle out from under your frozen Dagger for a moment switch with "F" control and blast them into cold submission with magic, then switch back "Q" to Dagger or Scepter for the death blow...if you have enough magic, go for victim # 2.... I killed so many of them that they are afraid of me now and will not come down to face me anymore. They will only blast me from the slope of the mountain where I can't reach them. If this happens you can still nail them with Iceball if your Arcane Magic skill is high enough...
Enjoy, GW

killing drakes
I endorse the ward of fire/winter weapon method as well, though I go with the dwarven winter axe or sapphire greatsword myself. More damage, so it's a little quicker. I think they have a longer reach as well, which can come in handy.

So, you looking for that special piece of armor?
Happy holidays to all my fellow game fanatics! Here is GW's Tip of the day...
If you are looking for a piece of high level armor that keeps evading you, read on...The Tomb of Souls has a secret that a few of you have probably figured out.
Everyone who has been there knows that it is a jackpot of weapons and armor, but there is a room with a single level 9 sarcophagus (it's to the southeast of room # 6, the Enkhar of Evil (see walkthrough map) When I first disarmed it, all it yielded was some lousy gold and 2 stinking healing potions, even after 4 consecutive attempts. In a level 9? Wierd man! So I left it unopened, thinking that there might be something to it. GW's spider sense was on to something again...
Open it last of all, after you get Vartugg's eye etc. It is a Cornucopia of high level armor. It does not offer Dragon armor but it does provide a huge assortment if you have enough patience. A neccesary virtue if you want to beat this game, with or without the help of walkthroughs. It took me 6--I'm obsessed, I admit it-- hours of disarming the damned thing to find what I was looking for, the Deathlord Plate!!! The following cycle in a variety of random combinations with regular Plate Mail and gold:
Conqueror's Helm, Helm of Storms, Warlocks Hat
Griffon Shield, Shield of the Dragon, Shield of Anguish, and the Shield of Sorrow
Mythnir Plate, Gauntlets, Boots, and Leggings
Crimson Plate, Gauntlets, Boots, Leggings and Belt
Guided Plate, Gauntlets, Boots, Leggings and Belt
Deathlord Plate, Gauntlets of Death, Boots, and Leggings
You will also find similar Armor in the chests in the Tomb of Voratus,(room 17) but if you want that final piece you are looking for to complete a set, this level 9 will help...I walked out with almost a complete set of Deathlord Armor (except the Belt and Shoulders!)
p.s. You can also find the Katana of the Sun in several chests in the Tomb.
Enjoy! GW

can you help?
I read your tip when I was in the Tomb of Souls, but I had already opened that lvl 9 chest with the potions. What should I do? I also need the Deathlord Plate. I've looked everywhere for it! Can I find it any place else??? Please help if you can! Thanks, Angus

There are a few pieces of Deathlord armor in one of the chests in the Drake's breeding grounds. I believe it is the southwest one. (I don't know if it will give you the Deathlord Plate, because I got another piece there) but you've probably already opened that one by now. Do you have a save in the Tomb before you opened it? If so, go back and start over from an earlier point. Good Luck!

Now you got me started!
Unfortunately I do not know where to find the Demonblades either, but now that you've asked me I will not be able to rest until I find at least one of them! The Demonblade of Charrus, being preferable. I will let you know when I have completed this new quest.

GW's Tip of the Day (2 tips and a challenge!)
Hey Mellez, I have an idea that might help us find your Holy Grail...
Do you have a Char that started with the Fool of Fortune Heraldry? This is a creation Heraldry which is only available when you choose your char's vital stats in the beginning.
I am currently playing these multiple chars simultaneously:
A Wylvan Rogue/Mage/Battlemage/Trickster/Cabalist, a Dwarf Fighter/Mage/Battlemage/Samarai, a Human Male Adept/Mage/Battlemage/Paladin/Crusader, and an Elf Male Mage/Adept/Monk/Sorcerer.
By the way, this is a GREAT way to play this game, because you can complete lots of different quests, and try out many classes, and race capabilities at the same time!
Anyway, my Dwarf has the Fool of Fortune Heraldry. He definitely gets better items than any of my other chars! You see where I'm going with this...
Here is my proposal...Take a char who posseses the Fool of Fortune Heraldry. If you don't have one, start a new one. Using ferncliffs very useful Spoilers Treasure Map list and Overland Map, open all the chests that have high level Heavy Weapons, and go to all the places like the Tomb of Souls that you been to before that have chests that yield high level Heavy Weapons as well. I will do the same. We can keep in touch regarding significant progress in this quest. Two heads are better than one! Better yet, lets INVITE and CHALLENGE anyone else who reads this proposal, to join us as well. We would create a seperate thread for this quest, and monitor each others progress so we could quickly elliminate bad leads. Anyone game? Let me know, and lol,
GW
p.s Thanks to Mellez for giving me this idea!

Class and Deathlord Armor
Hey, good tip Mellez!
I was not aware that different rare items were easier to obtain for different Class ladder designations! I wonder if certain races or classes also might be more inclined to find certain weapons like the Demonblades?! Any one have any feedback about htis possibility? Thanks for the info,
GW

Hey GW!
Can't thank you enough for your tips!!! I'm at this point only about an 8th lvl fighter still in the first town. I just finished the Temple dungeon and got the Horn for them. Had some bad fights down there especially these headless creatures with a giant axe!!! I was able to beat them after a few reloads but it sure hurt a lot! Another one came at me while I was leaving the dungeon so I just left.
I haven't really played too much with magic as I'm trying to focus on my fighter but perhaps I should indulge a bit. I do like being able to summon creatures as it helps when trying to defeat a boss character to have a distraction. But outside of that, I haven't found magic to be of that much help. Perhaps i'm just not high enough lvl or something in it. But my str is in the early 30's and the rest of my stats are still in their teens. Is that bad? What should I be focusing on if I want to create the Fighter of all Fighters?? If I want to be able to cleave enemies in a single blow and not sustain too much damage....what should I be focusing on? There are so many options in the game that i'm overwhelmed and confused.
