Temple Catacombs

Post by DUNIN »

I am pretty new to the game...been playing for about a week.

I'm having trouble killing the two white floating spirits on the main floor of the temple catacombs. They keep freezing me over and over 'till I die.

Can someone please advise how to kill these things?

If it helps you feel better, I'll tell you my story regarding this bastards.

My brother and I play LAN, and we are both very competent at playing our characters in any game. After roughly 10 reloads of trying various tactics, we found one that would work. Let the ghosts freeze the skeletons to death (their freeze will kill the skeletons if you didnt catch it) then high tail it out of there. We have not been able to kill a single one of those things without dying (thus calling for a reload). That freeze is ridiculous, and its totally unfair. They do give a huge chunk of xp if you manage to kill them. The only way I know how to hit them is with spells or a jump attack, and ranged weapons didnt work for us.

Thanks for the reply Bunker.

Im still here trying to kill these things...arrows don't have any effect...every magical thing I threw at them has not had any effect either...I've tried all kinds of swords and staffs, aerial attacks...nothing works...WTF!!!

Anyone else know what to do here?

If you search the forums for "banshee" you'll probably find a lot of information about them. Basically, you should block with your shield (to prevent yourself from being frozen) or bring up a menu (to let time go by so you can wait out being frozen).

Does the trick of bringing up a menu to wait out negative effects still work in 1.4?

so hitting the E button does pause the game and I can wait for the freeze to wear off and then get out of there, but I still have to be able to kill these things so I can get through the level.

I encountered these things right at the start of the Catacombs level and there is no way to get through it with these things chasing me every where I go.

How do we kill these things?

In multiplayer nothing will pause the game, and you said "we" so I assume you are playing with someone else. If you run past them, they will stay down in the underground area and you can complete the rest of the dungeon without them bugging you. They are slow and easy to outrun as long as you duck into cover if they start charging up a freeze ray. I'm tellin you man, we were so persistant in our efforts to kill them, but we found it to be impossible. We went as far as to splitting them up and fighting them one on one, which made things possible, but not easy as it was still taking forever to take down their life. As for fighting two at the same time, I dont think its gonna happen bro. One idea my brother had is that you are suppose to make them kill each other, but we didnt try that. If you are dead set on killing them, the overhead chop does work but you have to be right in their face to hit them. I found that shielding their freeze attack will only work a few times until it goes past your shield, or maybe that was just me messing up blocking.

The exit of that underground area isnt a door or a ramp, but its actually a large ledge you must jump on top of to climb out. If you noticed the bone-infused pillars along the hallway of the labrinth, it looks a lot like one of those only tipped over on its side. I think its in the north section of the underground part.

I think they are about 5k exp a piece, so thats all you miss out on if you take my suggestion and just get the hell out of there. It's hard to admit defeat, but you gotta know when youve lost.

I meant to say "How do I kill these things"...I'm playing single player.

I'll take your word for it though Bunker...I don't think there is any way I'm going to kill these things. I'm trying to get through the level with these things on my back. I will just have to save alot.

Peace.

Why are they so hard to kill  I have killed a bunch of ´em allover the game first one was that Custard mansion thingy and even some in the wilderness, i just give them a "HIT AND RUN" manipulation, after all they are slow with that ice spell. I just dodge when they shoot, and then full speed ahead to whack ´em :D .

I did finally kill both of them.

I waited until they followed me through a doorway...they had to fly low to get through the low arch of the doorway...then I let 'em have it before they could muster the freeze spell.

Thanks for all your input.
