How long does the game take?

I'm playing KOTOR 2 right now and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is REALLY long, and I'm wondering if the same is true for the first one? If so, maybe I'll buy it to tide me over until I can get back to my XBox spring break to finish the second one... the separation will slowly kill my soul =(.
Thanks

first time through it took me around 50 or so hours as i was still getting to grips with it. the second time through i did it in around 30 to 35 hours i think. so its a pretty long game. think the game makers said it is supposed to take something like 40 hours to complete. i don't think its as long as kotor2 but its still quite a long game.

BallOfFire, you have asked this question at a "great" time. I have just finished KOTOR I and now am starting on KOTOR II so KOTOR I is still fresh in my mind. The game for me was about same in length as KOTOR II and just as fun.

Really Mr_Sir?
Were you focusing on the main quests only? Or did you also complete the side quests as well?

i did all the side quests. second time through i could still remember most the dialogue and cutscenes so i just kind of skipped through them lol.

Hnh. Well maybe it was a little shorter... But as I recall KOTOR I has about the same amount of planets to travel to as KOTOR II meaning it should be close if not exact.
I think though it all comes down to how often you play the game. I only play a couple times a day, I think all up I spend an hour a day on my XBOX so both games took me about two weeks to complete to the full.

second time through i also skipped pazaak and swoop races cos i couldn't be bothered with them. they add a fair amount of game time lol if oyu are bad at them like me. also, the hours quoted are not taking into account reloads etc. so it was actually probably a lot longer than that. thats just the time it said i spent on my final save.

Yes, I too skipped the Swoop races as I weren't too great at them and ended up using all my money trying to win all the teirs. But Pazaak... I'm not sure there are any real quests with Pazaak in KOTOR I. It's just somthing you play if you need some cash, so there really were no point in playing the game in KOTOR I.
Unlike KOTOR I, you can win some good stuff with the old card game, and for that reason I tried to beat all I could in KOTOR II.

the pazaak in kotor2 is a lot more fun too. its so much better with the subtle changes they made to it. not quite down to just luck as much.

Awesome. Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to have to buy KOTOR for my comp, because I only turned my XBox off half an hour ago and im already going through KOTOR 2 withdrawal.
By the way, what did you all think of the start of KOTOR 1? I borrowed it from a friend once and gave up out of boredom about when I reached Dantoine. I'm wondering if that part is just the most boring or if I just didn't appreciate it back then cuz I was powergaming so much. I must have started over about 30 times in the two or three days I borrowed the game, trying to get the perfect character.

the start i hated the first time through as i wasn't a jedi. now i actually really like it. i never really powergame though. the build up of the character and all the dialogue is what i like about taris. from dantooine onwards is where the game really kicks in though. manaan is similar to taris too though, with a lot more roleplay and dialogue etc. than actual fighting, although the fighting you do there is quite good fun

i think kotor1 is definately more focussed on your character and events than just fighting for fighting sake. if you take time to speak to people and stuff it is quite interesting finding out about the history of certain races etc. and what is going on and what happened previously. the final showdown bit is all battle orientated though, and the dark jedi etc. are a lot tougher in kotor1 than kotor2 in my opinion. found the dark jedi a bit of a letdown in kotor2

Effective gametime on my first game in KOTOR1 was around 24-30 hours IIRC where I did the majority of sidequests for my character.
The following tries the gametime dropped some 10-15% I think.
