I am in the mood for some Vampire gaming again, so I thought I gotta take a look what the latest patches are, and found this one:

http://www.worthdownloading.com/downloa ... 96&id=6408

When I have more info, I am going to add it here.

hope that although it is friday 13. ;) we don't get another corruption
like with 1.9, and 2.0 also solves a big chinatown issue left over by that
corruption even after the re-upload. Special thanks this time must go to
RobinHood70 who did a great job checking all the dialogues against speech
and subtitles and who fixed a lot of other bugs he detected while doing
this! This patch will eventually be translated into french and for the
first time into german too. For a list of all major changes see below:

Yeah i got it thanks
Also when I installed it It did leave a record of the update in the files for the game, if it did where would it be?

It has a version file and mine still says 1.2 any clue to this?

All versions after 1.2 are unofficial, so they probably wouldn't change the version log. Version 1.2 is self executable, while the later unoffical patches are just copy over files you have to do yourself.

Hmm, I guess there really should be an installer for the patch, so to backup changed files and revert them on uninstall. This would make getting back to official state easier and installing next patches a cleaner process...

If you have enough disk space, do this:

Make a clean install of Vampire, install 1.2 ( the last official patch ).

Then make a copy of the whole folder, rename it ( i.e. Vampire 2.0 ), install the latest unoffical patch ( 2.0 for now ). And make a copy of the Vampire.exe of the copied version and drag it to your desktop ( you might have to rename that one too ).

Now, the next time you run the game, insert the game disk but don't click on start from the autorun startwindow. Click on "Cancel" ( or whatever the english version says ) and then start the game from the desktop modified icon you made.

The whole point is....you have a clean installed version allways on your computer and you don't need to uninstall, clean registry or reinstall everytime there is an error in your unoffically patched version.

If a new version comes out and you want to try it, just make a new copy of the clean original install again....

And a less disk-consuming solution would be to just backup the clean-install directory to a DVD and revert to it when I wish. But, one thing in your solution needs considering, some component location paths of the game are set in the registry, so I suspect the game will use them from the original directory. Perhaps such components need not be copied to the other directory. VPK's also need not be copied since they're never changed, and consume most disk space, so you could always have only one copy of those and move them where you need them. This means more work and one needs to know exactly what they're doing, but this would save some space.

However, the main reasons why I was mentioning a proper installer were saving the diskspace and saving the user from such file juggling :)

I have used that solution with other games too. Without any problems so far....

About the installer....the problem is that the patches are not offical since Troika is no more. So it's more or less a fan/former developer project which they do in their free time. The probably don't have time to code a real installer.

Actually, I've started working on an installer. However (fitting the reeasons you mentioned ;) ), I'm not sure I'll have enough time (or remember to work on it often enough), to finish it until there is, say, 3.0 patch about :) (if ever...).
