For a bit of a challenge, I am thinking a starting a party that does not include a mage, nor will I include any NPC mages.

Has anyone taken a small party through the game without the use of a mage?

Are there any advantages/disadvantages?

Haven't tried it but it should be possible. But I don't see why you would do such a thing, mages are what makes this game fun(and thieves). An all-mage party, now that would be a challenge.
