Fed Up - Spoiler

Five times I`ve made Irenicus flee Spellhold and five times Yoshima has killed one of my party with backstab, usually Aerie. (How come he couldn`t hit a brick wall when he was in my party?).
True sight doesn`t work. I`ve never had this much trouble before.
Any ideas, please?

just let yoshimo kill her then resurrect her or raise her from the dead after the battle. its easier than constantly trying to do it without her dying. or make her invisible and give her as much buffing magic as possible so she is well protected.

edit:if you have jaheira, just use her harper's call to raise aerie after the battle

If you don't want her to die, one thing you can do is to change the marching order. Even though I myself never do this (mainchar is always at the top, no matter what :P ), just put a stronger char in Aeries place and you should be fine. If the backstab always occurs at the same place, that is.

Btw, Aerie has stoneskin, right? Just buff her before the fight and she should be able to take a backstab. Stoneskin+mirror image+fire shield (blue) does the trick. :)

Spoilers (I guess)

What I do is, as soon as the fight starts, I run Aerie and Imoen absolutely into a corner, and surround them with the rest of my party. As I recall, Irenicus casts up hostile clones of my party, but Aerie and Imoen are well guarded in that position. I let the "patients" and Irenicus slug it out, until Irenicus is weakened. Then I advance one or two characters to battle Irenicus until he flees. I quickly reform in the corner. My clerics (3 of them) are always well equipped with "decloaking" spells, and they regularly fire them off as the thieves attack. Aerie and Imoen remain fairly safe in the corner.

Nothing ticks me off more than little Aerie getting backstabed. She doesn't have many hit points, ya know?

I managed it in the end, but it was incredibly difficult. I don`t like reserecting characters. It feels like cheating to me (although there are things I do do that are sort of cheating!)
My whole problem was Yoshima. If I removed all his backstabbing abilities when he was with me, would he regain them in time to use them against me?

I don't think you can remove his backstabbing abilities... I suppose you could make sure he doesn't have a dagger. Before entering Spellhold, I strip him of everything except basic armor and weapons.

I think the trick to this is keeping him visible. You say True Sight isn't working (I don't know why), but there is another Dispel Invisibility spell that every cleric has. The next time you play, you might want to be sure your clerics have that memorized.

Dual him to a fighter before you enter. That should take care of his backstabbing ability.

The Yoshimo that attacks the party I'm pretty sure is a pregenerated one, not the one that one actually levels up during the game. What ever is done with Yoshimo or given to him has no effect on him later in the game.

Mages should never be without a stoneskin active.

Ditto that. The only excuse for a lack of a stoneskin is a dead magic zone (which can appear in a certain place if you have ToB). Otherwise, keep stoneskin up at all times!
