hey anyone know an easy way to get past these? with these clunky controls (ie a key to move-a key to change position -a key to jump ) i just dont seem to have enough time to get across b4 the portal closes.
does this bite or what?

If you have a crystal of time, start it in the Kingston room before entering the puzzle room. It makes timing your jumps much easier. Start jumping just before the last pillar enters the water. Jump from the corners of the pillars. Save before starting your time crystal so you can just reload if you miss. As best I can tell you can't make the jumps unless you have the shadow stone so you’re beating your head on the wall if you haven't picked that up yet. If like me you prefer the arrow keys to move your character then use the 0/ins key to jump.
I have made this jump for a lot of people but I'm now running CE so I can't take saves from earlier versions, sorry. D

The water puzzle was the first obstacle in the game that had me extremely frustrated, until I solved it by using a Crystal of Time, as Ferncliff described above. I was so elated when I solved it man! It was at this point that the game really grabbed me. You see, I actually like a difficult challenge, as I consider myself an advanced gamer. I like to sharpen my wits and skills. Remember, necessity is the mother of invention...

I didn't use the Crystal of time to make the jumps. Just go to the southeast corner as soon as you get in the room. As soon as the last (4th) pillar starts to drop, jump to where the 1st one will be. Then just jump off the corner to the 2nd and so on. If you fall off, just exit the room and listen to the knight for about 10-15 seconds. When you re-enter, the pillars will be reset to the "up" position. I think this is easier than reloading your game.
