Alchemy and steal

Does alchemy work now in the collector's edition? It didn't work in 1.4.

And, what kind of items does steal net at higher levels, later in the game. I tried this for a while early in the game at low levels and got tons of potions, lots of gold, and low level weapons (I think).

If alchemy does anything in the CE, I didn't notice it. I only put 5 points in it, but I didn't see any more kataals dropping than normal.

For steal, I don't think the level of steal controls the quality of the object dropped. I think you only steal objects that the enemy would drop normally when it dies. My guess is that the level of the steal only controls how likely you are to steal during melee combat.

Btw, the best enemies to rob are those demigoth renegades in the Forbidden Lands. When I see those guys, I wield my worst weapon and hit them as many times as possible. I've gotten complete suits of plate armor and more from a single battle.

High level spell casters are another good bunch to attack with weak melee weapons (or bare hands for the non-ninjitsu inclined) if you've got a decent level of steal. Nausoleum dropped six or so decent (i.e. above level 3) spell books while I was hacking away at him though his constant regeneration means you can farm him for a long time if you have the resources.

I've seen similar results with other named casters too. Mog's crew (CE) is another good source of loot of all kinds. The demi-goth renegades are also a good source of cash for a thief. Five minutes and a rusty long sword on an Urgoth netted me around 15k gold along with the plate armour. (Of course, with the broken economy it's pretty pointless in v1.4/CE but at least the skill does something.)

The only real problem I have with steal is that I'm so used to my foe dying when an enemy coughs up loot that I often turn my back on a still living foe after a successful steal.

That's funny. I had the same problem with the character I used steal with. I abandoned that character early on though. Thanks, guys.

Briar.... sorry for being slow (i.e. a noob) but what do you mean by
'broken economy'?

p.s. I have read and really appreciate all your work on DL on your site!

It's really easy to find a shop where you can buy things for less than the sell price, meaning you can generate infinite money at will.

The economy is actually badly broken at this point. Between the bargain skill, the Merchant heraldry, and honour now properly adding influence to shopping, its easy to generate huge amounts of money in minutes.

The single most broken item of the bunch is selling and buying runes, particularly the high-level ones. Buy ten copies of one and sell it. You'll find that the store now has a 10-charge version of the rune. Buy and re-sell that multiple times. I managed to generate 3m gold in under two minutes. On the up side, it's an easy way to get lots of runes to play with the new rune spells.
