When does Thief get "Use any Item" ability?

My character started out as a Kensai, I leveled him up to level 15. At that point I changed over to Thief. Now I just barely got my Kensai abilities back. (Kensai level 15, Thief level 16) However I still don't have the option to gain abilities when I level up. I even went as far as to use "Shadowkeeper" to level up his levels - one at a time - to level 21. At no point do I have the option of gaining abilities. Is this something automaticly given?

I added the ability manually and just barely noticed I needed to select and use it. So if I was to gain it automaticly without having to select it, then I wouldn't of noticed. It's bad enough I didn't make a backup save, and am going to have to start all over this far into the game.

So can anyone help me out with what level I gain the "Use any Item" ability. Also letting me know if I have to select it while leveling up, or do i gain it without selecting.

Human

Kensai
Level: 15
Exp: 1750000

Thief
Level: 24
Exp: 3080000

I used Shadowkeeper and leveled up until I got the option of selecting abilities, "Use any Item" was the ability I selected. Now to start a new game, lol. (Should of kept a backup save.)

Using the ability:
Incase anyone is curious on how to use the ability, you do it just like you use Holy Might or any other ability. With the intended character selected click on the right-most icon at the bottom. This will bring up the special abilities that the character has. You just click on them from there. Also to bring up the abilities with the character selected you can just hit F12 on the keyboard.

I know a lot of people know this... but I didn't so I thought it could be helpfull.

"Use Any Item" is in fact a passive skill, so if you got it your special ability button something is wrong. UAI doesn't show up anywhere, it just(?) allows your character to wear any item as long as you have the sufficient stats.

Abilities is either passive(UAI), show up in your special ability button (Whirlwind, Shapechange) or in your spell book (Fallen Deva, Dragon's Breath).

I'd have to agree - you shouldn't see UAI as an actual ability once you've selected it - it becomes part of your character's natural ability and is always in effect.

As it turns out you can view it if you check out your abilities as soon as you level up. It seems to use automaticly within seconds of leveling up. If you're fast enough however, you will be able to see it before it's used.

You need to have 3 million XP in whatever class(es) are active. So, when you dualled you essentially reset your XP to zero.

As mentioned, if you can select the UAI ability as a button, something is wrong. I imagine it has to do with using Shadowkeeper, but a more experienced PC-user (UserUnfriendly, VondDonDu, etc.) might be able to clarify.

I doubt that very much--the way it is applied it should never be visible as a button.
