Game crashes when party rests

For some reason, the game has started crashing whenever I try to rest. It simply closes the game and returns to Explorer. Up until now, it had been running fine, but suddenly it started this.
I have reinstalled the game, as well as the patch, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

..mmmh..difficult one! Might be that the game has somehow lost the track of the video-sequence of resting (tent etc.). Check whether the directories Cd2 and Cd3 with sub-d's movies are still there with 437 and 417MB in (full-install). Could also be that the files are somehow damaged. Do you have a full install? Any problems while installing the game?

I agree - the video-sequence seems to be the key. It closes when it goes to run that scene.
Yes, I did a full install (with a 20 gig HD, why not?? <G> )
Checking the CD2 sub, I see under "movies" movies.bif (8,188,068) and movintro (54,513,286)
Under CD3 and "movies", I see movcd3 (6,967,442).
That's it.
Sometimes if I restore to a previous save, it works ok, others not.
Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but I had the game crash regularly when resting...only when resting outside. I found that by resting other places or quickly hitting space to skip the video sequence I could usually avoid problems.

...the files all all there with indeed the right sizes. This is becomming very strange...
The main-directory holds file(s) named baldur.err (and baldur.log), which you could check for some possible info. Whether your videos could be damaged with valid checksum I dunno and it's hardly to check at all.
May be that the bug lies somewhere totally different, your video-card or smth. sorry, no further ideas...

Did you try installing it into a different directory or a different partition? That way it forces windows to create new registry entries instead of using remnants of previous installs. That worked for me before on a similar problem.

I could find neither a "baldur.err" or "baldur.log" file. Too bad...
What seems strange is the connection to the savegames. I can go to an older savegame sometimes and rest just fine. Then, sometime later, the game (which I started from the old savegame) will do it again. NO EDITING IS BEING DONE. Also, this seems to happen both inside and out.
It would therefore seem logical that this is not a video card problem, but maybe something with the savegames?
(I will try the spacebar option - I didn't know that I could do that. If that stops the video from running, it would probably work, though it doesn't solve the problem.)

The spacebar idea didn't work - as soon as I hit save, it dropped to explorer.

I had a similar problem. The way I fixed it was to sleep outside. All I needed to do was sleep outside, and learned a romance dialouge with Viconia was about to start, and thats why it crashed on me. Hope that helps.

Similar happened to me ..
When Jaheira leaves and then come again to take you to Harper's hold for a chat with Galvarey , it crashes right after Jaheira says "let's go we must hurry"(or something)
If anyone can help me in this i would be gladful .

Well, I can rest outdoors. The problem is, most of the times that I need to rest I'm INDOORS! It's a major pain to traipse all the way out of the dungeon, go rest, and then head all the way back in again.
Does anyone have any idea how to FIX this bug??

Did you ever figure out what was going on or how to fix it? I'm now having the same problem, resting inside or out that you did. Please help! This is my first chance to play in a long time and this dang bug showed up!
