Well have you tried to look at the install (Cd1) in you windows explorer and double click the setup.exe?

I don't think that would work either because the same thing has been happening to me. I click on Setup.exe in CD 1 and I see the little installshield icon come up then...nothing. It's like it doesn't initialize. And I don't know what to do, I can't install it.

That's really weird!
Perhaps you could manually install the game by copying the files in the right directories... not sure but it could work... then you should just clic on vampire.exe with the cd-rom in the drive and it probably would let you play..

I tried that but I had no idea where everything went...

I've a lot of patches and mods but these should be the original files (if you aren't able to find 'em in the 2 cds probably they're modifications and if there's something I forgot just ask!
):
C:\Program Files\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption\
here you should put the following directories and files
Main Directory "Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption"
Code: Select all
anet.inf binkw32.dll GETINFO.DLL javai.dll mms32.dll Readme.rtf rlDirect.dll Sounds.nob Levels.nob Vampire.isu vampireAnkh.ico WONDLL.dll Vampire.exe
Cronichles\
Code: Select all
london.nmf london.nsc MP_CTD.nmf MP_CTD.nss MP_CTD.nst MP_CurseDarkness.nsc MP_DAInn.nsc MP_LeavesThree.nsc MP_London_Null.nmf MP_London_Null.nsc MP_LOT.nmf mp_lot.nss MP_LOT.nst MP_New_York_Null.nmf MP_New_York_Null.nsc MP_Prague_Null.nmf MP_Prague_Null.nsc MP_PrinceMansion.nsc MP_RaveClub.nsc MP_Salon.nmf MP_Salon.nst MP_Vienna_Null.nmf MP_Vienna_Null.nsc new_york.nmf NEW_YORK.NSC prague2.nmf Prague2.nsc prague.nmf Prague.nsc vienna.nmf Vienna.nsc
Extras\
Code: Select all
I think there is nothing necessary to make the game work in this directory
Miles\
Code: Select all
MP3DEC.ASI Mssa3d2.m3d Mssa3d.m3d MSSDS3DH.M3D MSSEAX2.M3D MSSEAX.M3D MSSFAST.M3D
Sounds\Dialog
Code: Select all
2980 files with the extensions .mp3 and .nlp
-Sounds\Music
-Sounds\StereoAmbient
Video\
Code: Select all
awakening.bik embrace.bik finale1.bik finale2.bik finale3.bik intro.bik logo.bik NYC.BIK Sunrise.bik Sunset.bik trailer.bik
ui\Icons
Code: Select all
i believe there are only mods here
strings\
Code: Select all
game.ncd game.ndd game.ndg system.nls game.nls
and the rest should be mods
misc\
Code: Select all
system.nls game.ndg effects.ned game.ndd game.ncd
plus the directory Templates\
Global.not
Crypt\
SaveGames\
This is how my Directory "Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption" is set.. hope that helped!

What file format do you use, NTFS, FAT32 or FAT16?
Redemption maybe have problems with installing on NTFS.
You can try rightclicking on the Install/setup and setting it to Win98 Comabaiblity or you can also try copying all the files from the cd into a Temp folder, then installling from your Temp folder (even try setting Win98 Compatablity as well).

Unfortunately all those sound files seem to be in the data .cab files and according to what I've found online there is no known way to crack a setup .cab on a disk. Also I tried the Win 98 compatibility trick and it's still doing the same thing

I tried to open that .cab with a generic archiver but it is somehow protected.. there's probably no way to install it without the setup.exe.
I can think only of one last chance...
Try to copy in a new directory all the contents of both the cd-roms and then start the setup from your Hard Disk...
perhaps it'll work... then you will need to play the game with the cd-rom in your drive, anyway.

Nope that was like the very first thing I tried. I wonder why it won't install, by all rights running it in Windows 98 compatibility mode should be set but...

Ok well I got the installer running but at roughly 22% it crashes with a message that says "error occurred during data move" or some such.
