Preventative medicine

2 questions.

Do you consider 1 or even 1/2 a healer to be enough for your party? (e.g. Jaheira).

How do you fight - take the hits then heal afterwards - patching them up and sending them out to fight again. OR, cast defensive spells (e.g. Defensive harmony) to avoid the hits in the first place...?

Well, I have Jaheira as my main healer, but Mazzy can heal her self, and Minsc can also heal alittle.

Most of the times I take the hits and heal after the fight, but Jaheira sometimes cast mass cure, which is a really good spell.

First question, right now I have 3 healers in my party... Jaheira, Imoen, and Anomen. No problems staying at full health. I'd feel more comfortable going with 2 if I still had my granted powers!
>
Second question, I do both! You can lay down all the protections you like, but if it's a tough/long fight, someone is bound to get hurt.

To be honest, with 2 rings of regenarationa and/or a ring of Gaxx, there is no need for even 1/2 of a healer.
So, after chapter 3 (if you go for Kangaxx) you don't need no healers. Just pass around those rings and you are ok!

Still, Jaheira is cool for a tank in the front (that is if your main ain't a fighter type and you haven't got Korgan in your party - HE is DA MAN!!!) because of a low armur class. But, she is not able to carry the best weapons plus she is annoying (can I form an "I hate Jaheira club"?)

I said this before
Jaheira has the anti-mage/cleric/druid spell "insect plage" it gives a 100% fail to casting spells.
Clerics are a MUST in the game, thives are not, In BG I it was the way around.Their spells are VERY HANDY in combat situations and a potion costs money(besides when all potions are gone, what are you going to do?)you also be figthing undead creatures and clerics have spells that give you some edge(Vampires energy drain-use negative plane protection to stop it from happenig) over then.See the cleric spell descritions, you will see what I am talking about.

Drak, dear, I know about the cleric spells but there are ALOT of restoration scrolls around to by and NPP is equaled in most cases by rage-enrage if you have Barbarian and Berserker as your front fighters (which is the fact in my case).
I am going through the game with two parties and both are right now in ch. 6. I have to say that the party without the cleric is going as smooth as the other.

sunray..false dawn..bolt of glory..firestorm and many more are awesome clerical spells..they should not be overlooked..they easilly rival a mage in power once they has access to lvl 6 and 7 spells

I'd have to agree on the power of clerics. I have one game with my main char as a priest of helm with minsc, jahaira, viconia and nalia. Party of 5. will pick up imoen later. I have to say they crush everyone in thier path...having 2 and half clerics..you basically are a defensive team from hell...if anyone give you more than a modest fight then you didn't prepare you cleric defensive spells correctly.

Thanx for the replies. Just got home from work.

I wasn't denying the power of clerics (especially of rblasting undead). Primarily interested in seeing how people dealt with the defensive aspect of the game. But 2 1/2 clerics!?! May the gods have mercy on their souls... Image

I'd also say Jaheira is enough . Especially if your group is more offensively than defensively.

Thats the beauty of Jahaira... she works for any kind of team...defensive or offensive. She kicks butt with a sling "with vengeance!!!" and she has the best mage killing spell in the game...what more can you ask for

if you find yourself going to the nearest temple after every battle and paying away your precious earnings than i think you need more healers. i dont think you can ever have too many of them.

Just had to reply here, if just to get myself going about posting again. Image

I'm sure many have noticed how useful the "Mass Cure" spell is but so far there are still a few people that have not realised that the fairly lowlevel druid spell "summon woodland being" brings you a nymph that can cast this spell as well, not to mention a lot of other ones. I usually have the druids memorize as many of this spell as possible considering that there are no such things as too many summoned nymphs at your command. Image

Yes but those damn Nymphs can die very quickly and they really dont have that many spells to use...they are kinda cute though.

I'll usually carry Anomen around for his cleric spells and he can be a fearsome fighter. I'll even dump Jahiera for him. But then again I don't play a female PC for the most part nor care for the romances any way. Yes he can be an annoying twit but he'll also shut up if you smack him for it!

Insect plague is a very awesome spell vs magic users, but five leopards works real well also!

Aw crap. You try and be serious and someone starts yappin' on about nymphs... Image

So anyway, why would *Jahiera* be summoning them. Image

Jahaira would be summoning them via her spell Animal summoning III
