Kensai/Thief possibility?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone dual-classed a kensai to a thief? Just the thought of their backstab makes me drool, with their bonuses and kai ability. It seems like it would make for some fun strategies.

It is very effective. I hardly ever used the kai ability, and yet, I almost always did around 100 damage... Just don't backtab Lavok - I learned that the hard way Image

The Kensai/thief is enormously effective in my opinion, since you both get the needed theif and fighters stronghold as well as a solid fighter. The Kai ability is not that impressive when using the thieves weapons, save the katana of course, but is quite welcome. I have only one thing to say about this character. Get the two rings of invisibility and the ring of air control!

Sometimes it's good to be a coward. ;-P

It seems since the Kensai's strength are a quick strike offense, the thief's backstab ability would complement this well. Too bad you can't backstab all monsters. Having no ranged weapons to fall back on as a thief would make this an interesting character to use. It seems a couple of invis, rings and the boots of speed would be a must. Anything else strongly recommended? Can thieves use mage scrolls?

Why not? My K/T backstabbed him. No problem. He dropped to the floor and was weak as a lamb instantaniously.

Yeah, and add to that that the thieves can get the "use any item" ability, and a kensai/thief will be VERY strong.

No missile weapons. You can still throw daggers/axes/darts/the Dwarven Thrower (if you're a Dwarf).

If you haven't installed the Baldurdash patches, Kensai can also use the Bow of Avoreen and several crossbows.

I was considering trying a barbarian/theif since the barbs cant use heavy armor anyways, any thoughts on this?

I think a barabrian/thief also has potential, you can specialise in many weapons which is nice but your backstab will be less powerful. Also, some types of armour restrict thieving abilities (see table in the manual). The high movement rate and the many hitpoints are great if you dual class to thief. Also, as opposed to a Kensai/Thief, you will be able use missile weapons. In short, a barbarian/thief will be more of an all-rounder.

No, I for one didn't know this. Why? Let me guess.. because it isn't a valid multi-class combination because barbarian is not a fighter kit.

Ah well, I hope Lykwid will try the K/T instead.

It isn't a valid option since Barbarians, much like Sorcerers, Paladins and Bards cannot dual class or multiclass.

Don't think it quite works like that. If it did, the second you dualed your kensai to a thief, he would have been able to use armour and bows. Since this didn't happen, I would be willing to say that the kensai's predetermined inability to use armour and ranged weapons would override the possibility of your kensai/thief (with 'use any item' ability) being able to wear bracers, armour or use missile weapons.

Same probably goes for Cleric/Thieves.

Would've been fun, though, to see priests with Carsomyr, Celestial Fury or the Gesen Bow :)
