Freezing

For some reason, about 30% of the time I come onto this page, my entire computer freezes at the home page. It doesn't do this with any other page on the web. The mouse still moves, but the pages stay frozen, even if one of them was doing something such as running a file or downloading something, and nothing can be clicked on. I've tried waiting it out but that doesn't work. I always end up having to shut down my computer manually and restart. What is it about this site that makes me computer wonky? Does anyone else have this problem from time to time?

I've not experienced this personally, which browser do you use?

Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Wierd.
The only thing I can think of at the moment where the webpage might influence your browser is either with adds which your browser can't handle or a script error which your browser can't handle.

But it is a bit difficult narrowing the problem down or even knowing whether or not this is the proper path.

How often does it happen?
Are there any script errors (if you can see this)?
Which adds are showing (if you can see this)?
and so on...

I usually go on here nightly to see if there might be a question on the IWD forums I can help answer (I haven't had the chance to help out yet, but the people on those forums were so awesome to me when I needed help, that I wanted to help them out too). It happens about once a week, on average. I don't see pop-up ads on here at all, unless you want to count the ad that you can just click on to continue to GameBanshee, which really isn't a pop-up at all. I never see any script errors to any page, nor does my computer freeze on any page except this one. It's weird. I end up restarting manually, there is no message along with the freezing, no anything. I can being up the Start toolbar, but then anything I click on turns up in outline and refuses to do anything else. Superly annoying.

I've had freezing problems too and I'm using Opera. I couldn't say if it solely GB to fault though. However, I do have GB open on a tab most of the time, so it could be related to this site.
Usually, it unfreezes after a while for me though.

This is the first I've ever heard of this, and I honestly don't have an explanation for you. I'm assuming it's an advertisement that would cause the issue, but I'll have to check with UGO to find out for sure. Just so I have all my facts straight, please post or email me the following information.

What operating system and service pack are you running?
What browser and version are you running?
Do you have any sort of advertisement blocking software installed?

That should get us a little closer to tracking down the issue.

Windows 2000, SP4.
Opera 8.52.
Nope, nothing beyond what Opera offers by default.

How often does the problem occur with this configuration? Do you have to cold boot your computer each time it occurs?

Over the last couple of weeks, it's been happening daily, usually a few times a day. It just freezes the browser into a non-responsive state for a few minutes at a time, if I try to minimise the browser, it will appear that nothing has happened, even if the taskbar shows Opera as minimised. It does minimise if I use the 'Show Desktop' button though if I maximise it while it is frozen only the title bar will appear.
If I try to close it, I get an error message that the program is not responding, I haven't needed to reboot during any of these errors though.

I have been having problems myself.
My browser either will freeze or slow down, and a little message in the lower left of Firefox will say something like "waiting for pinpoint"

I can't remember the exact phrasing, but I'll copy it down the next time it happens.

EDIT

exact site (ad?) that seems tp be causing me the freezing is:

Read speed.pointroll.com

Sorry I couldn't respond to you guys earlier. I got really sick and then had an allergic reaction to the medicine they put me on, but hey, I've never been so happy to scratch myself in all my life.
Anyhow, the problem occurs usually only like 3 out of every 10 times I open to page, and always on the front page. I've tried minimizing it, it won't do it, I can pull up other programs over it for a time and they seem to work, but if I try to minimize them, they show up as outlines over the GB page. Under my Windows this-is-the-computer-you-have page, it says Windows Version 2002. I'm not sure how to find the browser age though, but I know it's Microsoft Internet Explorer. Thanks for all the help and let me know if you have anymore questions regarding my computer (you might have to tell me where to find some things though lol).

Have you tried an alternate browser?

I was having lots of freezing trouble at Game Banshee with Firefox, but Opera is causing me no trouble at all for some reason
