strongest / weakest skill - kreia

In the Ebon Hawk when you question Kreia about force powers, there's a point where she asks you to select your strongest then weakest skill. Then supposedly you can get a bonus for these skills. For me, it didn't seem to work.

I did some searching and it looks like this might be a bug, but I didn't read anything definitive.

So, what have you guys found? Is this a bug? Was anyone actually able to get a skill bonus?

BTW, to clarify, I did get a message saying that my skills were increased, but when I checked them, they were the same as they were before I talked to Kreia.

It worked for me. In fact, I had two things at zero and they both had 1 added on to them, though I don't think it would considered a natural bonus. Just go back after you've run around a bit, follow the same line of conversation and say you've finished what she asked you to do. :)

Hill-Shatar,

Hmm, that's why I made this post. There's some people that claim that this is a bug, but others, like you, claim that they got the skill increase.

Now, when you got the skill increase, did you actually increase your "weak" skill and then talk to Kreia or did you talk to her immediately after? Or did you equip a skill-improving item and then talk to her?

Or did you "run around a bit" and then ask about the skill increase? Do those skill points trickle in slowly depending on your level and you have to keep bugging Kreia about them?

Did you ask her multiple times, and then after enough things had happened ... it finally worked?

Did you get the "skills increased" dialog just, once?

Wow, that's a bunch of questions. I hope you can remember how you pulled it off.

FWIW, my choices were:
-For strongest, computer=12
-For weakest, security=4

I also had a weak stealth=4 skill that I could have chosen. I prefered to have a security bonus.

I've just done a bit of experimenting. I can only find one game which I'm able to test it; I'm quite prepared to accept that other save games might give other results (KOTOR2 is buggy enough that nothing surprises me any more)

On every occasion, I recieved an increase to my (base) stated-highest skill, but not to my base lowest skill. I tried several different highest skills and 2 lowest skills, always with the same result. I tried giving anything from 1 to 15 skill points to my weakest skill; this made no difference to anything. I also obtained the same effect by equipping an item which raised my skill level.

My usual method of approaching this conversation is to go to Kreia when I'm ready to level up, have the first part of the lesson, then level up and immediately have the second part of the conversation. I don't know if waiting would change the outcome; anyone tried it?

thinking about it, that might be what happened in my game too as i never really checked the highest skill, just checked to see if the lowest one changed at all.

So, when you get the bonus/increase, is it just a point added to the skill or does it vary randomly?

And the increase happens only once, right? After you talk to Kreia and get the message that says "skills increased" or whatever, the increase (if you are going to get one at all) should be there immediately? It's not something that you have to keep going back to her and bug her about, right?

And just to make sure I'm not being dense and looking in the wrong place - to check for this increase, I should go to the Abilities->Skills menu where it says:
Skill Rank: 4
Bonus: 2
Total Rank: 6

After the message, either my "Skill Rank" or "Bonus" will be increased?

Yes. You can only get the conversation option once. Basically the Kreia thing has 2 parts. First part: after doing the first 'listening to people's thoughts lesson, you talk to Kreia and ask her if she has anything else to teach you. She says that Jedi ought to have good skills. She asks you what your strongest skill and weakest skills are. (If you have more than one strongest or weakest skill, you get to pick one). She tells you to improve on your weakest skill. End the conversation.

Second part: after increasing the number of points in your weakest skill, either by levelling up or by equipping an item, start again with Kreia. Ask her to teach about the Force, pick the option where you want to continue the lesson about skills. When you end the conversation, you'll get a message telling you that your maximum FPs have increased, and you have received a bonus to your strongest and weakest skill.

Yes. the Skill Rank, I believe?

Alcina,

Thanks. That's about what I figured. It doesn't work for me if I use an item to increase my weakest skill and then talk to her. I get the message, but the skills don't increase.

I guess I'll try waiting a little longer - until I level up - before I talk to her again.

Hmmm. Odd.

I always do the two parts of the conversation together in time ( I go to Kreia with a level up ready) and have never had a problem.

Oh, how many bugs does this game have?

A LOT, I did the same thing you did and DID NOT get any increase. hmmm. Playing consular just leveled to 15 into prestige class Jedi WeaponMaster. I began the conversation with Kreia, she told me to increase my lowest skill, leveled to lvl 1 Weaponmaster THEN increased demolition. Talked to here again, to NO effect on any skills. *sigh*

In my last episode, I was trying to figure out how to get a skill bonus from Kreia. I decided to wait until I'd gained a level, and then "UP" my weakest skill and then talk to Kreia.

Well, I just gained a level. My weakest skill was security(actually, security and stealth were both a weak level=4). Just before talking to Kreia, I leveled-up and increased my character's skill in security by several points.

I talked to Kreia about force powers and skill. I got the message that my skills were increased, but when I checked them out they hadn't changed at all.

I guess this is just a bug in the game. Since some people are able to get the skill increase, it would be nice to know what they are doing differently than those of us that are running into this problem.

If anyone knows, post it here and fill the rest of us in.

I've had it both work and not work, using the same save. I have no idea how this happens, except that maybe it has something to do with the skills you're choosing. Here's what happened to me:

I first tried this using my best skill as Awareness and my worst as Stealth, which was at zero. When I talked to Kreia again (after putting on items to increase these skills), my Awareness went up, but my Stealth didn't. So I reloaded.

The second try, I used Awareness again, but this time chose Demolitions, which was at a 2. This time (same method, using items to improve for this), both increased.

So, based on what I saw, one of two things might be true here: that you can't raise a skill that's at zero, or Stealth specifically is buggy.

(And yeah, there are tons of bugs in this game. Usually, this really irritates me, but I knew it was buggy when I started, so I've been able to allow myself to run an imperfect game, not being able to finish all the quests, being okay with not finding the hidden cache on the Ebon Hawk, etc. In order to enjoy this game--and it's definitely enjoyable--I think you have to allow for some of this, unfortunately.)

I've had Treat Injury not raise as well, so it can't be _just_ stealth.
