Is it the environmentals?
It only happens when i'm outside ... I have a Nvidia Geforce 6200 SE TurboCache... Could it be that it isn't good enough... i also have 1.5 gb ram.... if anyone has any ideas i'm tired of trying to kill stuff in slow motion.

I know what you mean. I'm running on a 1.8 GHz Intel P4, with 512 MB RAM. Video card is RADEON 9000 with 256 MB only. In order to get decent frame rates outdoors I have to set the screen resolution to 800x600, reduce the distance visibility, reduce the grass detail, and turn off shadows. Even then it still slows down with more the 6 monsters on the screen, or in heavy foliage areas with lots of grass or in swamps.

Same Here
I have the same problem. I have turned down the grass details and shadows are turned off. I was going to try a few other options, but since you have said that it doesn't solve the problem, I won't bother.
I have 1.5GHz P4, Radeon 6600GT, 1GB RAM. My friend has the same computer but has a 3+GHz P4 instead. I do believe that it could be the CPU...

Hmmm...
Oh, I am not saying your CPU is slow because it is definately faster than mine. Well, there goes my theory, I wonder what could be causing this.
Does anyone else's character stop moving every so often and then keep moving a few seconds later (sorta like it is loading the area in front of you when you can already see it)?

I noticed the same thing, but I just thought it was an indication that my character was in danger of being attacked because it seems to happen mostly when enemies are approaching. It also happens when moving from one portion of a map to another... It is like the underlying map is divided into sections and each section has to load into RAM as you move from section to section...

This happens to me, usually means that some beasties have spawned nearby. Make a big circle and see if you can find them, kill them and move on. Most often, long lag times generally signify that the game is loading the monster skins into the cache. The longest pause i've had was about 20 seconds on moonbeast isle. A few seconds later, i got hit with about 12 or so moonbeasts and 2 fire drakes. NOT a pretty picture and a hella long fight. I've also notice that that the longer you play, the less lag stops ya get since the textures are already loaded.
BTW, I run the game with all the graphic options maxed at 1280x1024.

I have found that the choppiness is worse when there is a lot of space ahead of me on the screen. If I move the camera angle to looking down on my character from above, or travel next to walls/mountains, especially when partially facing them, gameplay speeds up. It helps just to angle the camera so that the horizon is just over the top of the screen. I can then still see where I'm going (at least a little), but can move relatively quickly.

Set the beast encounters to low, that speeds the game up massively

Yes, but it takes MUCH longer to accumulate XP / Advancement Points to get to higher skill levels and qualify for certain classes.

mannnnn its doesnt matter if your worrying about the xp just go kill a few hundred moonbeasts then your be setting right where your supposed to
then you dont have to kill those pesky rats, bats, and fire drakes cause those are just anoying
if you set your monster dif to low and the amount to high youll have 6 come at you at one time if you press esc and wait a min and one of those gives you 18000 xp it is a bit cheap but it gets the job done for me

It's most likely your hard drive reading in new textures. Defrag your drive and if you can, put your swap file on a different partition from the game (if you don't know what I mean by that, it's best you don't mess with it). I get little blips on my system, which is way overspecced for this game, but they are little enough I can ignore them. I suspect it's simply less-than-optimal graphics programming. This game does seem to rely more on the processor than the video card.
