Video Card Price

Does anyone know the prices of video cards? I need one for Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. I need a fairly decent one that will work good on that game.

I don't know what you mean by currency. I don't know anything about video cards because I just got a new PC this Christmas. Can you guys help me out?

Currency is money, like the Dollar.

A good enough video card, in american money, should be about $100-150 to get a bit in between the min and recommended graphics.

If you're looking for recommendations, consider getting a card that's been well reviewed and on the market for 1-2 years. That way, the price will have dropped by as much as 50%, while still being recent enough to run all current games.

Consider the ATI Radeon line, perhaps a 9600. It's a bit old, but it will certainly run Oblivion.

Graphics cards go anywhere from $20 USD to $2000 USD.

Before you buy one, you'll need to know if it's compatible with your motherboard. Also, some computers may require a new power supply unit for a powerful graphics card.

And is $250 in USD? Or yen?

250 USD should net you a top of the line card. You can probably spend half that, and get a card that's only slightly dated but loses nothing in gaming.

What is USD and YEN? Also where's a good place to get the card? Best buy? Futurshop?

USD is US Dollars and YEN is the japanese currency (I think, not entirely sure on that last one).

As for the best place to get a card, just look around. There are usually a lot of cards on ebay and there are a lot of online sites that sell them. Just do a search in google and you'll find some. Or check your local pc shop to see what they have so you have a guide price to go by so you know if you are getting a good deal if you buy one elsewhere or online.

Chances are, if best buy sells video cards, then they'll have one suitable for oblivion.

And right, yen is the japanese currency, but I'm not sure why we pronounce it yen when they pronounce it 'en.'

Pay attention as someone said not to get a PCI-E card if your motherboard isn't adequate.

Also I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and it runs great, so for an AGP card, if that's what you have to go for, I would suggest that one.

I saw the article, and am convinced that I'd absolutely need a $3000 PC =/

Unless you are in dire need of a major system upgrade, that is pretty steep just to play one game. :speech:

I think you'll be fine with an Athlon64 3700+ and a 7900GT.

Indeed! I won't be playing Oblivion until I can afford a new computer, and not before then either.

Anyway, more on topic, it might be possible to balance out a somewhat lower end/mid-range graphics card with plenty of RAM. When I originally played Morrowind I had 128 MB RAM and a *very* basic graphics card. I bumped up my RAM to 384 MB, which made a really significant difference. And then, after a while, I bought a better graphics card as well.
It was the new card that made the biggest difference to gameplay, but the initial RAM increase helped greatly as well.
