magic items you 'cannot equip at this time' (major spoilers)

-so things are going somewhat horribly wrong, for a start i have apparently stolen 304 items. Now i know about 3 of them, the rest just appeared in my stats after doing a mission to kill some black bow bandits. Im worried about this as im a lawful guy, members of the mages guild, the fighters guild the blades and a knight errant to boot, all of which apparently 'frown' upon crime.
-the next problem is the 'ring of vampiyre' which I got for doing a mission to find an artefact for some woman. all was great till I took it off for a mages guild quest (the one into someones dreams) and now I cannot put it back on, it just says 'cannot equip this magical item at this time'. at all times. Whats more its disapeared from my legitimate sellable items list. So im stuck with a ring worth 2000 that I cant use....
-Finally there was a 'someoneorothers debt' mission where I had to go pick up her family heirlooms. the catch, she permanently sits in her house (Ive waited a full 24 hours in 2 types of weather...) the door of which is redded out so in order to complete the quest (its a fighters guild one i think) i have to break the law 4 times.
I gues what I really want is peoples opinions on whether i'm hitting bugs or just being a dumbass and doing something wrong or not doing something i should be?

I can tell you this, I have the same thing with the stolen items appear. I got out of Pale Pass and wham, over 300 stolen items when it was 4 before that. Totally ludicrous since it was not stealing. So far, nobody has said anything and I am a member of well a lot fractions, so it doesn't seem to be bothering me.
EDIT: Ok I checked about the ring, apparently you have to unequip it before the quest, and you can't sell it because it is being looked at as a quest item. But check your stats, people say that the effects are still there, even though they are not wearing it so even though it appears to be a bug, you could wear two more rings and benefit from it.

ok sweet, thanks for checking it out, that ring thing is cool if a little irritating for legitimateness but hey ho, cant feel guilty over something i cannot help
on a side not in the pale pass quest did you actually wait until after midnight to see if anything happened? I didn't, i'm just wondering if there was more 'non essential' parts to the quest that would mean the 300 wouldnt show up as stolen... hmm. but you are right, noone seems to care in any of the factions

Exactly, at least you are getting the benefits of a bug
I don't remember about the Pale Pass to be honest. I spent a lot of time there, looking for some chests and then in the fort, that I cannot be certain now. But since it doesn't seem to be bothering me, I am letting it be. To be honest, if it does appear to be an issue, considering I didn't steal in the first place, I will look around to see if there is a way via the console (and there probably is) to reduce the number to my original 4.

as long as you do not have any item marked with a red hand in your invetory, none of the "stolen" statistic will affect you. I didn't noticed about the red hand icon in the beginning of the game and might have mistakenly stolen some items, but as soon as I spotted "Stolen Items: 3" in my character stats, I have been always been very careful about taking items. However, I noticed my stolen item records jumping to over 350 counts last night. I have never been to the Pale Pass (or the quest there), so I was wondering about how I have stolen so many items, but never have any of my items marked with a red hand. In the end I realised that, I have done the stolen painting quest, where I have open many chests with red eye icon - just for investigation purpose. Although I never took any of those items, they are all accounted for as stolen by me.
So, I guess someone in BethieSoft surely don't have any idea what people will do when investigating a theft (what ironic, I have became a thief while investigating a theft) - search every corner and flip every rock for clues - they just assume everyone will automatically know to look at the paint stain and found the painting tools like Sherlock did. Either that or they are too lazy to grant exclusion right for an officially appointed (by the Countess) investigator.
It is indded a bug. Looking at an item secretly does not equal to stealing it.

none of the guilds find out about murders or thefts unless your caught doing them! got around 900-1000 stolen items, bout 20-25 murders and am happily rising in guild ranks (except fighter which is stuck

)

[QUOTE=blueray] so I was wondering about how I have stolen so many items, but never have any of my items marked with a red hand. Ah but you see, I did the stolen painting quest as well and I had no items added during that one. So I don't think that's it. Besides in Pale Pass there are no 'red' chests, you'll see, it's a regular mission so I am totally puzzled as to why that huge number appeared.

Not so, Not so
Okay - here's the thing. I have been told that I've Stolen from the Mages Guild and the Fighters guild - and I have never taken anything with a red hand on it - and furthermore have obviously never been caught in the action of stealing. Has anyone else had this problem? It sucks royally. What would be causing this?

You should probably start a new thread on this or look up an older one on page two.
But, Yes that has happened to me.
I found some info on it. If you accidentally hit your horse while you are fighting something else, the game thinks you are attacking the property of whatever guild you are in and treats it like stealing. Also, looting a body too close to your horse can cause this.
It is a big time pain to get back into the fighters and mages guild, so I would suggest you do a reload when that message comes up.
