So I got the pillar open and down through the gate without much trouble - but now I can't figure out how to get the stairs to raise so that I can get up on top of that platform where the thing(s) I'm supposed to get from the ruins are - any help? I see a push switch up on the platform but shooting it with arrows/spells doesn't seem to do anything and if I could get to it in person I wouldn't need to raise the stairs .

yeah, I was trapped there too. Look around, there is a switch.

In case you haven't found it yet, I finished this one today - there is a switch on one of the pillars that are at the back of the room - go up the stairs, turn towards the stairs that need to be raised and it's on your left.
