Duplicated Items in Inventory

I was dungeon crawling and found an enchanted mace on one to of the baddies. When I picked it up it got a journal update for a quest that I know nothing about. When I looted the body I saw that mace again, I thought I already grabbed it and I did. But, there was another of the same thing on him. So now I have two, and since it's a quest item I can't drop the damn thing. Just wondering if anyone else has experience the duplicate item thing cuz I've been hearing people in here talk about duplicate items.

It's a bug, I've read about it. Can't remember the name of the item right now but basically it stops the quest, you need the console to finish it. So I take it you didn't get the quest before you went looking for it?

Yeah, I just picked up the mace and my journal updated. It wants me to bring it to some lady but when I make it an active quest there's no arrow. So I don't know what to do, the good thing is that the mace and the duplicate doesn't wiegh a thing.

Yup, that's it. And if you went to her, she wouldn't accept it/see it. It's a known issue. You on a PC or a 360?

I'm on 360, if the maces weighed a ton I would be really mad. But good thing they weigh nothing.

Closement?
So how does one solve this issue? Although the maces weight is 0 they are still a nuisance to constantly burden oneself with. And i would prefer to make an end of this task as well.

Well for 360 I am not sure it can be solved. For the PC the easiest would be to use the console and then 'skip' over this part when you give the mace away.
If you want me to look for it no problem, but I would need the exact name of the quest, and the NPC which gets the mace.

Quest: When the vow breaks
NPC: Maeva the Buxom who lives in Whitmond Farm (outside Anvil)
The mace (Rockshatter) is found in Fort Strand and is being held by Balfi the Contemptable

Note the sticky thread at the start of this forum, and the requirements for spoilers. If you can't abide by this, don't post.

Fable, I hope this is ok, not to be blackened out, it's not really spoilers, it's just code?
If she won't accept it (due to the doubling in the inventory, to mark it as done) type:
- press ~
- type "player.setstage SQ10 100" without the quotations
This will not remove it but will end the quest if she isn't responding.
Now somebody over at the ES figured out a another way to get rid of the excess maces and finish the quest, but first save your game, and back it up, before attempting this! Then:
- count the number of rockshatters you have
- open console with ~
- type:
player.removeitem 00014EC2 RockshatterCount
player.removeitem 00014EC3 RockshatterCount
player.removeitem 00014EC4 RockshatterCount
player.removeitem 00061421 RockshatterCount
player.removeitem 00014EC5 RockshatterCount
player.removeitem 00014EC6 RockshatterCount
RockshatterCount = number of R. you have
- leave the console open, click on the Maeva, the NPC
- enter the following in the console:
additem 0000CF20 1
- click on her again
- enter in the console:
player.additem 00061435 1
setstage "SQ10" 100
- close it
The quest is now complete and you have gotten rid of all the weapons.

It's fine, Ashen. That amounts to a fix, not a spoiler. Thank you for providing it to those who need it.

Same problem in Thieves guild quest in Leyawiin
Hi there, will you please help me resolve same problem with my quest?
Ahdarji's Heirloom - Thieves Guild quest in Leyawiin
I have duplicate quest item - Ahdarji's ring and have no choice of telling her that i have it(them). Hope that when I get rid of one of them according to your instructions, will Ahdarji hear me and quest will be finished.
Where are you looking for right numbers of objects in inventory/quest for use with console commands?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english...

In this case this should work:
- type ~ (without the SHIFT)
- type "player.removeitem 00035e95 1" without the quotations
- talk to her
I use the Construction Set for the IDs. You can download it from the main site then open data, click twice on Oblivion (and not any mods you may have), then ok and voila - all NPCs, quests, items etc. But it is hard to go through it sometimes, a lot of things there

No problem, happy to help. Let me know if there's a problem, there is usually more than one way to solve something.

No further problems, works like it should after second ring removed! Thanks, next time when I get stuck I'll try find my way out myself with Const. set you mentioned. Oblivion is great game and thanks to Bethseda for console mode to debug myself

I wouldn't say doomed, but no, you can't do anything at the moment. 360 does not have the console feature.

No, as it was already mentioned, no console on the 360. Now what I do not know is whether you can download a patch, the beta one, I am guessing yes, probably through the exchange or something. This may fix it, but I stress may cause so far it hasn't been terribly good. Otherwise I'm sorry to say I know of no way to fix this.
