Umbra and Clavicus Vile(important note)*SPOILER*

umbras sword is actually a quest item that your supposed to retrieve for the daedra Clavicus Vile...u can choose to give or not give it to him once you have it in exchange for the mask of clavicus vile(which is pretty crappy)...but if u dotn give it to him then he screws with you for the rest of the game...e.g. totally random events that kick you out of your guilds(and i mean all of em) for stealing or something..but they keep happening over and over, and it gets to be a pain in the ass when u want to get back into them....just a fair warning to everyone that wants this umbra....or u can not do the clavicus vile shrine and get it on your own anyway...

how about if you either -
a) just kill him
b) are already in charge of the guilds (hence you shouldnt be able to be kicked out)

Aside from the fact that Daedric Shrines are statues, quest NPC's are generally unkillable.

really, so the guy you are having to get this sword for is a statue?? well, at least my plan b surely still holds true

not really, I've been thrown out of guilds ( for: stealing, assault, accidentally zapping the instructor in the practice hall in the arcane university, you know little things), even though I'm :
arch-mage, master of the fighters guild, the gray fox and listener for the dark brotherhood (the dinner guest quest for the DB was easily my favorite quest so far).
Darn and I wanted to keep that sword, and I really don't think that Clavicus Vile is that upstanding of a daedra, any chance you can just throw it into lake around imperial city and he'll forget about it?

No probably not.
Though you can always say it was totally vile of Bethy to make it so, and then use the console they oh so helpfully provided and give yourself your well earned sword by using a little add item

Ah, did you consider about not finishing the quest and just keeping the umbra and the dog in your inventory(for a bonus the items don't weight anything).
I'm keeping the sword and finish the quest until I have no use for the sword.
It's a win-win situation.
Maybe considered as slightly exploiting the quest system.

i must admit to being confused once more, i just went to the place contaiining the sword, murdered the person with it and have kept it for myself. no staues or shrines or silly quests

mordib - it is not connected to the murder of Umbra and getting the sword. You need to find the shrine/statue of Clavicus and then activate it, and then comes the trouble. Haven't you done any D quests yet - Molag Bar, Azura, Meridia, Sanguine? I just finished Nocturnal - wicked loot!

ya nocturnals loot was crazy unbalanced...love it tho...anyway...you can be the leader of guilds and still be kicked out(why i dont know)...or u can just never do the quest in the first place and take umbra for your own personal use...but if u want to get all the daedric quests done (once u do them all a final one come available which gives u a nice lil book which i wont talk about here) youll have to make that choice with clavicus...i kept the sword and its been a pain in the ass since...but who cares, i got a badass sword
...i just hope the daedras games dont get worse than minor nuisances

Ah heck it's marked as spoilers this thread -
Ring of War -
Fortify on Self 10 points each - Armorer, Athletics, Blade, Block, Blunt, Hand to Hand and Heavy Armor.
Yup, you have to dive through another passage, but at the same part of the cave where you found the Eye and there's a chest floating in the water when you resurface. It's there

possibly just a high level spawned treasure item, i assume you're pretty damn high by now aren't you Ashen, you seem to have completed moost quests in the game

Well I'm lvl 24 now, so I might have beenn 22 or 21 when I did it. But I am not the only person who found it in that place, so I am not sure it was random - but it is probably lvl related though. My friend who found it per my instructions is also close to 20 so... shame, but at least keep in mind that it is possible place for a wicked ring if you are that lvl or higher.
That whole quest was lunacy for me but I loved it!
He he, and no, I've done only about 50 quests (I love wondering around too much), a bit more maybe, and haven't even started the DB and TG. And I've just found another wicked source for quests so am happily rolling along.

Oh by the way I've checked - finished 70 quests, 29 active, lvl 24.

I got to the cave and found the chest, but no ring, just 30+ gold in it. I guess the content is random.
