After you buy a house that is run down how do you fix it up? Are they basically places to store your excess inventory?

You can buy furnishings at one of the local shops. The furnishings include various chests, desks, etc - plus at least one bed. Fancier houses you can buy wall hangings and paintings....

That's basically their purpose, yes. While Bethsoft took advantage of the basic idea modders had in MW, they didn't bother adding all the nice features modders had--such as rotatable books, planters you could individually choose, torches of different colored flame you could hang on walls, etc. You can buy upgrades to individual rooms, but you have no say on what goes in the actual room. It's just a pre-package deal.

Me, I'm waiting for the better modders' houses to show up in Oblivion. :D

Is there a way to actually put things down in your house, I got me a nice ex-haunted house, but when I "put" my books down it looked like a tornado had hit it and things went everywhere.

The drop seems to act like a random fling.

Any thoughts or are you lot all messes too?

You can use the "Z" key to pick up and drag items - though trying to get something to stand up correctly on a shelf is quite a task.....it can be dome, but takes a while.

Thanks, I'll be trying that in about 2 hours after work 'n' all :)

What is totally stupid is that it seems *only one* house has display cases. Plus I don't like them. It is almost impossible to place anything correctly on the shelves, it is driving me nutters.

Books are indeed impossible to place - I settled for stacked piles figuring that would be easier but then I accidently hit it with the book I want to place on top and wham, they all go flying. Very annoying.

I too join Fable, in waiting for a good house mod

There is only 1 house with display cases unless the one in imperial city has them as well. Books can be placed quite easely in shelves, it just takes a little practise and patience.

There's a mod that adds an extra room with display cases to all houses, however. Even the cheap shack. Haven't tried it, but I'm personally waiting for one that adds alchemical ingredients storage, with an auto-sorter.

Easily? Little practice and patience? Maybe if you go to carnies and win all those hand-is-quicker-than-the-eye games regularly, but I found it an annoying pain. Each to their own, but I'm playing for fun, not to try to figure out how exactly to position a book and shoot it into a shelf. I'm still waiting for an update to MW's Book Rotate mod, and I know it's coming.

I agree 100% Fable, I know I've given up. Hey do you mind giving us heads up for that mod when it comes out (both the books and the alch actually), in the upper thread? :)
