Imoen will me my sole mage and thief.

For weapons, I'm considering either

1) Firetooth Crossbow
2) Short Bow of Gesen
3) Firetooth Dagger and Buckler+1

Advantage to 1 and 2 is that I can co-equip Staff of Magi so she can trade off easily.

Advantage to 3 is that I can get an extra attack per round at better damage, as well as get a -2 AC from the buckler.

And for armor:

1) Robe of Vecna
2) Upgraded Bladesinger Mail (as-something)

As for the other stuff... Besides circlet of netheril, I really have no idea. any suggestions?

I would suggest staff of the magi and short bow.

Other stuff:
Ring of wizardry
Ring of Acuity
Robe of Vecna
Good ac bracers (i.e. 3)
Netheril will take awhile, in the meantime could use an amulet of protection or the metaspell influence.
Any boots, girdles that you can find and seem appropriate and not needed for other characters.

I personally prefer Tharsheron's Bow over the Gesen Bow. Much faster arrows.

Where is the robe of Vecna? I got it first time through, but managed to miss it this time (D'OH!!!)

One of the bonus merchants has it. I believe it's Deirdre at the Adventurer's Mart.

I gave her:the celestial katana,robe of vecna,bow of ghesen.Later in tob I replaced her katana with the answerer+4.It's great she can use swords.She also has a high critical hit rate.

For weapons i use Celestial Fury (katana), Gesen short bow or Dak'kon Zerth Blade.

For armor the Bladesinger Elven Chain (allows spellcasting) in ToB and Shadowdragon in SoA.

And I use any thief-ability increasing ring since i don't need a second wizard until ToB.

Staff Of The Magi and Gesen's Bow are the weapons I always reserve for Imoen.

i always give her the bow of Gesen (if i don't have mazzy in my party )
and a nice katana (celestial fury duh )
the staff of the magi is always for Edwin or my self when pplaying a mage (another DUHHHH )

well, since she's your only mage she should get the 'obligatory' mage items - Robe of Vecna and Staff of Magi (this also gives +2 AC so forget about the Buckler). the other weapon should be some sort of bow/crossbow (Short Bow of Gesen is my favorite since it can hit almost anything) and Bracers of Archery (or possibly Bracers of Defense 3).
also get her the Ring of Wizardry. for the other ring you could go with Ring of Acuity but that means you can't give her any regenerative ring to heal her and you'll have to resort only to spells and potions. other rings to consider would be Ring of Danger Sense, Ring of Lock Picks, Ring of Protection +2...
she should also get the Cloak of Protection +2, since none of the other characters will probably be able to use it (because of magical armor).

and once in ToB, be absolutely sure to get her Amulet of the Master Harper (+3 AC, bonus to Find Traps and Pick Locks, imune to silence) and Circlet of Nethril (bonus 7th and 8th level spell).

I imported my main char from BG1, cheaply dropping all my items on the ground at the start etc., so I had Kiel's Buckler from Durlag's Tower, which gives +1 to DEX as well as a +1 AC bonus (or you could create it, code SHLD20). Then I gave her the Firetooth dagger, and later on in the game the upgraded Angurvadal long sword (22 to STR while equipped). Perfect for her strength problems.

In my group Imoen is "second" mage - first is Edwin, I needed a good mage in chapters 2-5, first I took Nalia but Edwin is MUCH better !.. And my PC is thief, so I don't use Imoen meager thief skills.

So I gave her :
Robe of Archmagi - Robe of Vecna is for Edwin, and this one gives correct AC too
Ring of Wizardry
Ring + 2
Cloak of Reflection / Cloak + 2
Bracers of Archery
Gesen Bow - with this and the bracers she is a GOOD archer !
Amulet of ?? (the one giving +2 to spell saves)
Boots of Stealth (just in case...)

Obviously if she were the only mage she'd have Robe of Vecna, Staff of Magi, both rings of Wizardry and Acuity, but still Bracers and Gesen Bow - the Gesen is better due to its bonuses even if he gives less attacks than Tansheron...For example IT HURTS KANGAXX (1 pt of damage, electrical I think) !!
