Just curious, I'm on my second time through the game and have encountered the same curiosity at the same point in the game and was wondering if any one could shed any light on it for me.

In level 2 of the creator race ruins is a box with the passcode for the second seal golem, also in the box is a 'fire opal'. Now, apparently this is a plot item (because I can't sell it to a merchant) but I have no idea which sub plot its for as it doesn't appear under any of the quests or henchman quests in the walkthrough.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

thats not actually part of any quest etc., its just that it has been accidently assigned as a quest item by the developers which is why you can't sell it. it may even be from a quest that they decided not to include in the end and forgot to remove it.
