moving to areas

odd - started a new game from scratch - and can't visit certain areas without a crash - docks, bridge etc - been to trademeet, but now when I try to return it crashes.
it is infuriating, only being able to go to some locations - e.g. sewers = fine, old tunnels = crash.
now, the previous run through overcame those problem areas, but this time, crashes.
any ideas/solutions?
BTW - activated console in attempt to jump to areas (didn't work) - is there a guide to using the console for moving around?
I've managed to crank up quite a bit of the quest experience, but can't move trouble-free to complete them.

From what I've read in your topics, it sounds like you got a bunch of problems, just like the Umber Hulk crash. BTW did you get that fixed?
Anyways, it sounds like you got a defective disk OR the game is corrupted. Try Uninstalling then Reinstalling. If that doesn't work, buy a new game

I am familiar with this problem. It occured when I was 'newbie' playing BG2 for the first time and completing it.
But with me it was reversed, visiting any area outside of Athkatla would crash it so it seems the problem that the game has is random.
No doubt a fresh install would clean things up but first look into any other suggestions that others users may have.

Umber hulks - problem doesn't seem to exist this game - the ones in the cave in Umar hills and in Nalia's quest both didn't crach the game.
the oddest thing is that some places, I just can't go - yet last game eventually could go anywhere without the crashes - that time I had graphic probs and changing resolution seemed to fix it (doesn't this time) - installed Baldurdash and other patches/fixes - ToB hasn't crashed once though and my other PC is a chunk through that already.
I have re-installed a few times - always get some probs - my disks are far from new - manually copied to HD in some places afterwards.
It is a very peculiar set of problems.
any advice on console use?

Try "CLUAConsole:SaveMyBacon();"
or maybe "CLUAConsole:

"
No real advice, uninstall the game and leave it for a bit then reinstall it, that's what worked with me.

Have you ever uninstalled uncleanly? (What I mean by this is, you delete files without doing an official uninstall.) This screws things up a lot and causes many bugs. I have a tutorial on removing the files from the hard drive if you think this may be the problem.
Otherwise, I'd just uninstall and then reinstall. Sometimes and installation becomes corrupted.
Or maybe your disk is scratched or dirty? Try cleaning it. (Water only, or a cleaning solution designed specifically for disks.)

if you have notes on what to root out when uninstalling, that might be helpful.
I only re-started BGII a few weeks back after a gap of a few years - and have installed & reinstalled a few times since. I eventually got to the stage where I have no killer bugs (except hulks) and went on to ToB which hardly has any bugs at all.
I started a new game to run alongside my uber-PC in ToB and then found all these area problems arose, yet with a different PC, I had completed the game just days earlier. I have save games from before completing BGII and they seem to load OK, yet the next run doesn't.
I have lost track of which patches/mods I have installed, but it all worked fine after Baldurdash and the save game editor - in fact I wonder if the SGE fixed the hulk problem.
all the software should be there - no area info should be incomplete as I could go anywhere last time through - yet this time, area bugs galore.
I have that poisoned guy's corpse and a rhakshasha head rotting in a trunk as I can't move to the docks or trademeet!
UPDATE
since penning the above I decided to try the game out on my wife's laptop - it installed without a single hitch and by using a data key to bring across the official patch and a couple of saved games, I have BGII working perfectly. (so far at least)
for some reason it does not recognise the ToB expansion disk, so I may have to port my save-game back to the PC via the datakey when I reach the end of BGII - but it is very weird that I had a completely trouble-free install, when on my PC it has had problems every time.
