Problem on Dantoine

Um well it first started on the "Matale Grounds" and goes as far as I could go(not far though), the character jumps from one place of the map to another in a frame or two, framerate is not more than 1-2 FPS and sometimes your hero won't respond to any move command! The game's just not playable! I saw some posts in other forums about people who have the same problem. I think whenever there is grass, there is this terrible "lag" if I could call it that way. Pathing it, reinstalling it doesn't work. Reducing all the video options to the absolute minimum doesn't improve the FPS even one tiny bit!

Any suggestions???

Hi,

There was a similar problem like yours posted in the KOTOR 2 forums under Video card settings thread. There is a solution there. It may sound like a different game but both of them use the same graphics engine so, it'll guarantee work.

This is the link:http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=72781

Also, head over to the official KOTOR forums. The solutions are also there.

Hope it helps.

ah yes, the famous "dantooine problem"
try reinstalling the game, try new drivers - both worked for me

once, formating my HD helped, but take that as a last resort :D

Well, thats what I did:
1. Reinstall the game
2. There are no newer drivers than the ones I have
3. Tried reverting the drivers to some old ones that I know not to cause the problem.
4. Pathing the game

None of these worked!

And about formatting - how do you imagine formatting 120 GBs... si this is a no-no for me. :(

Edit:
So I got to play with EVERY single option in the sound, gameplay, graphics, etc. menus... Turns out the higher the refresh rate is, the higher this "lag" is, so I set it to minimum(60Hz), turned off VSYNC but the game is still unplayable!

Try this trick of switching between characters and going back and forth from the menu screen and the game screen. Usually works for me, though you have to do this constantly whenever that lag and warp problem occur on the Dantooine levels (happens most of the time).

It sounds like a temporary fix but that's the only way of getting through the Dantooine levels.

Hmm, went searching even more:
"Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1"
This fixed the whole issue, except that the game still lags because these areas are graphically demanding by default, by this is fixable in the easiest way...

Btw another common issue I have(not only with KotOR, but other games) is that 2x AA makes a lot of colourful dots appear. Another game was HL2, which makes me believe it has something to do with OpenGL, both using the same API if I recall correctly. :) But this is nothing to be concenrned since I don't run it without any AA :) Too laggy if I do.

Thanks for the support, the walktrough here is the best I've found. I love this site :D

Well, I've been meaning to do a format for a long time(haven done so in at least a year and a half!) but there too much stuff that I don't know where to put. And if I format one patition I better do so with the whole HDD, no half jobs :D
