Multi vs dual in TOB

Don't know if this has been posted before, but I was just curious about how other people are finding their beloved kensai/mages are performing in ToB.

I've not had the expansion long, but it seems to me the main danger to my characters is when an opponent uses (Greater) Whirlwind. It seems to be more or less the uber-skill for fighters: my 4 20th level-ish fighters managed to kill Demogorgon in 2 rounds of all using Greater Whirlwind.

The point I'm getting to is that dual classers don't get the high level fighter (or whatever) skills that multi-classed characters get as soon as they pass 3,000,000 XP.

Any thoughts? Will the multi classers return to power once again? :D

PS to whoever said that their multi class F/M couldn't pick Dragon's Breath, etc at level up, you have to be able to cast 9th level spells to pick those. ie 18th level in your mage class. You can pick *all* the fighter abilities the whole time though... mwahaha...!

Multis certainly seem to be back in the picture. I'm not sure if this means Fighter/Mages drive the vaunted Kensai-Mage from its seat, though. The Kensai Kit offers some substantial bonuses that aren't easily replaced.

fighter/mage will have the figthers habilities and the mages habilities as well, that's a good advantage over kensai/mages

Sorry guys, but the Kensai/Mage dual is still better than the F/Mu multi even in ToB. What you guys are forgetting are the hit points. If you max your hit-points, the multiclass will have (10+4)/2 or 7 per level for nine levels plus con bonus. The Kensai-Mage will have 10 per level for nine levels plus Con bonus. That's 27 extra hit points right off the top.

In addition the Kensai-Mage will have more levels.... The F/Mu will top out at what? 24 Ftr/20 Mu at 8,000,000? At a more realistic 6,000,000 (party of 6 AFTER Mellisan is beaten),he probably won't even *SEE* 9th level spells (making many of the mage abilities pointless). [Even at 8Meg, he will have *two* 9th level spells.]

The Kensai-Mage OTOH will be 9th level Kensai (typically) and 30th(!!) level Mu...and will have more hits than the F/Mu to boot. If you were patient and dualed him at 13, at 8 Meg, you still have 28 levels of Mu. This translates into FOUR 9th level spells.

Greater whilewind is nice, but the Kensai-Mu is still better...even in ToB.

Intreresting and powerful dual-class in ToB: Wizard-slayer/thief. Try it! (Switch at or before level 24.) With the Holy Avenger it's easy to get over 100% magic resistance.

Spork,

In a word.....

OVERRATED! You will never LIVE to see the potential.

If you dual at 24th level, you will spend almost the entire game as a theif that can NOT use potions or magic items.

UGH!!!!!!!!

You are seriously going to carry around a sword that is useless to you until perhaps the final battle? Didn't think so.

The fact is that when you dual, you want to *minimize* the time you spend climbing back to your original level and that is *especially* true with your combo.

Let's see.....24th level Wizard Slayer is 4million XP. You dual.

That means you have to get what? 3.3 million to make 25th level thief.

Don't tell ME that you are going to solo for those 3.3 million XP. You will NOT have *any* of your fighter abilities (including the MR), and you will NOT be able to use Casomyr until you are almost ready to dual back.

Can you say *moist* spot on ground?

If you DO have party members help you out, then you will NOT make it. I find that unless you solo (or nearly solo), you have extreme difficulty breaking 6 million XP by the end of the game.
