Just so you know, I had a full Azura's Star, and dropped it in my house. I came back for it and it was gone. NOOOO! After searching all of creation for it, I finally exited the game and came back. It was where I left it. This is a bug, but the solution is simple. Just quit and restart.

Yah, ive ran into dissaperaring objects ive dropped before.

My hunch is that they just become invisible as once i dropped a sigel stone as a decoration and the next time i walked into the room it was gone!

I didnt really care as it sucked but if i walk around to where it was i can still hear the noise it made but cant higlight it.

Its as if its taunting me...

Thanks for the information. I'll be sure to be careful with my Star. I don't think this has ever happened to any of my items, but I have dropped the Star accidentaly into tall grass...on a slope. That sucked, I had to reload.

yah, the HAVOK engine sucks some times

Yeah a similar thing happened to me except with a horse. I fast travelled to a location I was right next to (to bring my horse over) and it came over, but it was invisible. I tried to mount and I got a loading screen that would never start. After I reloaded, everything was back to normal.
